Soybean oil prices reduced by Tk 10 per litre

The government has fixed the new price of edible oil, the new rates will be effective from March 1. The price will be reduced by Tk 10 per liter, said a press release of the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners & Vanaspati Manufacturers Association today (Feb 20).
The meeting was held at the at the Commerce Ministry on Tuesday (February 20). State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu briefed reporters after the meeting.
Accordingly, the price of bottled edible oil has been reduced by Tk 10 per liter to Tk 163. On the other hand, open soybean oil will be retailed at Tk 159 per litre.

Excavation of Canal started in the part recovered from Sadeeq Agro
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) starting the Canal digging in the part recovered from the illegal occupation of Sadeeq Agro Farm which being discussed from Eid for the goat incident.
On Friday (June 28) at noon, excavation work started in the area occupied by Sadeeq Agro in the Ramchandrapur canal in Beribadh area of Mohammadpur.
DNCC information officer Piyal Hachan said that canal excavation work has started in the recovered part of Sadeeq Agro. DNCC is conducting canal excavation work today (Friday) in Sat Masjid Housing area of Mohammadpur.
Yesterday, more than 60 illegal structures built by occupying DNCC's own land, canals and roads were removed and about 10 bighas of its own property was recovered; which included the portion of the canal occupied by Sadeeq Agro.
Piyal Hasan also said that the evacuation process will continue for the next three days. Meanwhile, the DNCC has started the process of excavating the part of the canal, which was filled.
Sadikur Rahman appointed as new Chairman of CAAB
Air Commodore Sadikur Rahman Chowdhury has been appointed as the new Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (June 27).
Sadikur Rahman will replace the current chairman Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Mafidur Rahman.
Earlier, Mafidur Rahman's retirement notification was issued. He has been assigned to the Ministry of Private Aviation and Tourism.
On June 18, 2019, Mafidur Rahman was appointed as the chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). His tenure was extended twice in his career.
Russell's Viper not even in the list of top 10 venomous snakes
Russell's Viper is not even in the list of top 10 venomous snakes found around the world. Also, the country has sufficient antivenom (snake bite antidote) in stock. Officially, the medicine has reached all upazila health complexes. As a result, medical experts advised not to panic about the snake.
Medical experts said this at a scientific seminar titled 'Russell's Viper: Fear Versus Fact' at the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall in Shahbag, capital, on Thursday (June 27).
Medical experts said that the widely discussed Russell's viper or Chandrabora snake has been found in 27 districts of the country. It doesn't mean that people in these areas will not leave their homes. There are many rumors about the snake. But this snake never comes hurshly and bites people. It only bites when it sees danger of them.
They said that in 2013, for the first time, Russell's Viper's bite patients were found. 70 percent of patients are recovering from this snake bite. Late arrival at the hospital is responsible for the remaining 30 percent death. At present, its antivenom is available in the country. Antivenom has been delivered to every upazila health complex. At the same time the work of making antivenom in the country is underway.

Income tax documents also revealed that Ipsita has assets of Tk 22 crore due to various loans and borrowings. She has one and a half acres of land at Hebamule in Narsingdi. She is the owner of a seven-storey house in the luxurious area of Bashundhara residential area of the capital. The house is worth at least 50 crores but the income tax documents show it as 5 crores.
Experts for stopping spread of misinformation over Russell's viper
Experts urged all not to pay heed to misinformation over Russell's viper, one of the most venomous snakes, as the nearly extinct species of the snake was spotted in some districts in the country.
"Prevalence history of Russell's viper is very old in Bangladesh. Russell's viper (locally known as Chandrabora) was seen hardly in any districts till 2013," wildlife and snake expert Abu Saeed told BSS today.
"In Bangladesh, there are around 119 snake species. Of them, eighty percent of snakes are nonpoisonous," he added.
Narrating prevalence history of Russell's viper, Abu Saeed, who won Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation-2023, said Russell's viper was found in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna regions in a very limited scale before 2002.
Two Russell's vipers were found and killed in Rajshahi University in 2002 and these are conserved at the Zoology department, the wildlife expert said, adding "The first incident of Russell's viper's bite was reported on March 13, 2013 in Nachol upazila of Chapainawabganj district."
The victim was admitted to the Rajshahi Medical College and two weeks later he died, Abu Saeed.
Although a significant number of people are bitten by different species of snakes and many of them die from snakebite every year in the country, he asserted.
The most venomous species of snakes -- Karait and Cobra - - are living across the country and these two species of snake are the most poisonous ones compared to the Russell's viper, Abu Saeed added.
Since 2013, prevalence rate of Russell's viper has increased sharply in Bangladesh due to human-induced intervention, the award winning wildlife expert said.
"Natural predators like mongoose, monitor lizard, forest cat, eagle and crane help control the viper population. The killing of these predators has contributed to an increase in viper numbers," he added.
In several districts, fear of Russell's viper has led to erroneous killing of other snakes, Abu Saeed said and attributed the incident to misinformation on social media.
"There is a lot of misinformation circulating on social media on Russell's viper, which led people killing the python snake.
The expert focused on maintaining ecological balance, urging the people to refrain from killing of wildlife, which survive by eating eggs of snakes.
Abu Saeed said, "Till now, there is no comprehensive study on snakes in the country . . . despite a significant number of people die each year because of snake bites in the country, but this critical issue is still neglected."
He called upon all relevant organizations, ministries and non-government organizations to work together to handle the challenges of sharp rise of Russell's viper.
Dr. Ahmedul Kabir, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said there are adequate amounts of anti-venom at all public hospitals to treat the victims bite by Russell's Viper, the highly venomous snake.
"The most important task is to take snakebite victims to a doctor at the quickest possible time . . . timely medical intervention can fully cure snakebite victims through proper treatment," he added.
The DGHS official said, "Anti-venoms are available at all public hospitals including upazila level hospital and heath complexes at union level. Our doctors and healthcare workers are skilled enough to treat snake bite victims."
According to the DGHS, around 4.03 lakh people are bitten by snakes every year in Bangladesh, and 7,511 of them die of snake bites.
HSC, equivalent exam to begin tomorrow
HSC and equivalent exams starting nationwide. All the preparations have already been completed regarding this exam which is going to start on Sunday (June 30). The Ministry of Education has ordered the closure of all coaching centers till August 11 in order to prevent the leakage of question papers and to conduct the examination in a fair and beautiful environment. A total of 2,725 centers and 9,463 educational institutions ready to organize the examination.
This time a total of 14,50,790 candidates are going to participate in HSC/Alim/HSC (BM/BMT), HSC (Vocational)/Diploma in Commerce examination of 9 General Education Board, Technical Education Board and Madrasa Education Board. Among them, 7,50,281 male students and 7,00,509 female students.
The total number of candidates in nine general education boards is 11,28,281. Among them, 5,33,680 male students and 5,94,601 female students. The examination will be held in 1,566 centers and 4,870 educational institutions. The number of candidates in Alim exam is 88,076 people. Among them, 47,592 male students and 40,484 female students. Total centers are 452 and total educational institutions are 2,685. Apart from this, the total number of candidates in HSC (BM/BMT) HSC (Vocational)/Diploma in Commerce (Technical) Board is 2,34,433. Among them, 1,69,009 male students and 65,424 female students. A total of 707 centers and 1,908 educational institutions.
Compared to last year, the total number of candidates has increased by 91,448. Total institutions increased by 294 and total centers increased by 67.
The Ministry of Education has given some instructions for the smooth completion of the examination. As per the instructions, candidates must enter the examination hall at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination. If an examinee is allowed to enter after the scheduled time due to unavoidable reasons, his name, roll number, time of entry, reason for delay etc. should be written in a registrar and submitted in the form of a report to the concerned education board on the same day. 25 minutes before the start of the exam, the set code of the question paper will be informed to the concerned through SMS. No one other than the officer-in-charge may enter the center with a mobile phone or electronic device; Only authorized officers can use non-photo mobile phones.

HSC Exam 2024: Some instructions to be followed
The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations 2024 are starting today at 10 am across the country. However, HSC and equivalent exams of Sylhet Education Board will be postponed till July 8 due to flood.
Approximately 100,000 examinees from the Sylhet division will attend the exams starting 9 July, and subsequent exams will be held as scheduled.
Around 1,450,790 students will sit for the HSC, equivalent exam 2024. Compared to last year, the number of candidates has increased by 91 thousand.
Meanwhile, the education boards have issued special instructions for this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidates.
The following rules to be followed:
Candidates must be seated in the exam hall 30 minutes before the exam starts.
The exams will start with multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and then proceed to a written (creative/theoretical) section.
The duration of multiple-choice questions (MCQ) will be 30 minutes for 30 marks. The duration of creative questions (written) will be 2 hours and 30 minutes for 70 marks.
In subjects with practicals, the MCQ will have 25 minutes for 25 marks, and the written section will have 2 hours and 35 minutes for 50 marks.
The exams will continue without any breaks until the end, as stated on the question papers.
For exams starting at 10am:
Blank answer sheets and multiple-choice OMR sheets will be distributed starting from 9:30am.
MCQ question papers will be distributed at 10am.
OMR sheets for MCQ answers will be collected at 10:30am, and question papers for the written bit will be distributed. [For the 25-mark multiple-choice test on subjects with practicals, this collection will happen at 10:25am]
For exams starting at 2pm:
Blank answer sheets and OMR sheets will be distributed beginning at 1:30pm.
MCQ question papers will be distributed at 2pm.
OMR sheets for multiple-choice answers will be collected at 2:30pm, and question papers for the written will be distributed. [For the 25-mark MCQ test, this collection will happen at 2:25pm]
Some other important instructions are:
Exams must be conducted within the times specified on the question papers.
Candidates will collect their admit cards from the heads of their institutions.
Each candidate must correctly fill in their exam roll number, registration number, subject code, etc, on the OMR sheet. Writing in the margins or folding the answer sheet is strictly prohibited.
Candidates must pass separately in theoretical, multiple-choice, and practical parts.
Candidates can only take the exams for the subjects listed on their registration card and admit card; they are not allowed to take the exams for other subjects.
No candidate's exam will be conducted at their college or institution; seating arrangements will be made through relocation.
Candidates are allowed to use a non-programmable scientific calculator. The use of programmable calculators is prohibited.
No one will be allowed to use mobile phones at the exam centre except for authorised personnel, and candidates cannot bring mobile phones to the centre.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has directed all schools, including those with attached colleges, to resume regular classes after exam hours and continue them on days without board exams. This ensures class activities do not interfere with the ongoing examinations. All coaching centres nationwide will be closed for 44 days from 29 June to 11 August in light of the HSC and equivalent examinations.
