Bangladesh and Laos joint champions
Rain occurred as impact of severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’. But all the preparations were taken. Even spectators were in the gallery to watch the match. But at last decision was taken ‘final is suspended’. Host Bangladesh and Laos are declared joint champions in the Bangamata Under-19 Women’s International Gold Cup football tournament.
Senior vice president of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Abdus Salam Murshedi, MP confirmed the matter on Friday.
After organizing an emergency press conference at Bangabandhu national stadium he said, the final match of the Bangamata Under 19 Women’s International Gold Cup 2019 has been cancelled following taken decision of the tournament committee and local organizing committee due to severe natural calamity ‘Fani’. In this regard BFF is expressing sincere regret to all the concerned people. The tournament participating under-19 teams of Bangladesh and Laos are being declared as joint champions.
At that time managers of both the teams were present. Besides there were K-Sports Chief Executive Officer Fahad Karim, BFF women football committee chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron, federation general secretary Abu Nayem Sohag and others.
The six-nation tournament began on April 22. Laos, Mongolia and Tajikistan took part in the group ‘A’ while Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan and United Arab Emirates were in group ‘B’.
In the group ‘A’ first match Mongolia beat Tajikistan by 3-0 goals. In the second group match Laos beat Mongolia by 5-0 goals. In the third group match Laos beat Tajikistan by 6-0 goals and became group champion.
On the other hand in group ‘B’ first match Bangladesh faced UAE and beat them by 2-0 goals. In the second group match Kyrgyzstan beat UAE by 2-0 goals. In the last group match Bangladesh beat Kyrgyzstan by 2-1 goals.
Being champion in group ‘A’ Laos faced Kyrgyzstan in the semifinal. In the first semifinal Laos girls confirmed the final with a huge win of 7-1 goals against Kyrgyzstan.
On the other hand, in the second semifinal group ‘B’ champion Bangladesh faced Mongolia. With a win of 3-0 goals the Bangladesh girls reached in the final after beating Mongolia by 3-0 goals.
