New Zealand beat Pakistan by 21 runs
Pace bowler Adam Milne claimed four wickets as New Zealand beat Pakistan by 21 runs in the second Twenty20 international Sunday to take a 2-0 series lead. The tourists threw away a strong position in their run chase after Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman scored half-centuries as they were dismissed for 173 in the final over, in response to New Zealand's 194-8. Victory came at a cost for the Black Caps, whose captain Kane Williamson retired hurt with a hamstring injury while batting, placing him in doubt for the remainder of the five-match series.   The match bore similarities to New Zealand's 46-run win in the opening match in Auckland on Friday, with another aggressive batting approach led from the top by Finn Allen. His 70 off 41 balls continued a run of form which the hard-hitting opener attributed to a change of approach. "I've been working hard on assessing conditions and choosing when to pull the trigger," Allen said.   "I'm always looking to score boundaries and be positive but it's situational. It's when to take a higher-risk option or a lower risk." The target looked within sight for Pakistan before Fakhar was bowled by Milne for a power-packed 50 off 25 balls in the 10th over, leaving Pakistan 97-3. They struggled from that point, with only Babar looking a threat until he was caught off Ben Sears for 66.   Milne finished with 4-33, having earlier removed the dangerous Mohammadm Rizwan as Pakistan lost both openers with just 10 runs on the board. New Zealand were again asked to bat first and Allen immediately took on the visitors' attack, blasting five sixes and seven fours. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi said he and the rest of his attack didn't bowl well enough to capitalise on winning the toss. "With fast bowling, you go for swing and you know you need a wicket early on," he said.   "Unfortunately we missed that. If we take those one or two wickets, their score would be 170-180. But the start wasn't very good, not the way we want." The Black Caps were well placed at 111 for one at the midway point but suffered a major setback soon afterwards when Williamson was forced to retire hurt for 26. There will be concern it is a continuation of the spate of injuries the veteran skipper has suffered in the last year.   A long-standing knee problem ruled the 33-year-old out of both white-ball series at home to Bangladesh in December. New Zealand's middle and lower order struggled, with pace bowler Haris Rauf particularly adept over the closing overs, finishing with 3-38.

Salah scores twice as Liverpool beat Newcastle 4-2
After a goalless first half, Liverpool seemed in danger of being held to a third consecutive Anfield stalemate in a relentless and furious match that was fueled by the wind and fierce rain on Merseyside. The best chance Salah had in the first half was to convert a penalty kick, but the forward, who will now play for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations, tapped in a cross for the first goal and then finished off a second one in the last moments of play.   His initial goal was his 150th Premier League goal for the Reds, but Alexander Isak's five-minute counterattack, which came after Anthony Gordon's deft work to get in behind the hosts' defense, saw him curl the ball home.   Liverpool put in a lot of effort to take the lead once more, and eventually Curtis Jones did it. However, Cody Gapko's scuffed effort following a great Salah ball gave Liverpool breathing room.   However, Newcastle struck back when Sven Botman headed home a corner to level the score 3-2. Salah then heroically sent Martin Dubravka the wrong way to seal the victory.   Liverpool had drawn their last two home games against Manchester United and Arsenal, but had won their first seven Premier League games at Anfield this season.   They have a five-point lead over Arsenal and Manchester City, who have a game in hand. They also lead Aston Villa by three points.   Newcastle, who were missing nine first-team players, remain ninth.   Source: BBC

Bangladesh beat India to reach Under-19 Asia Cup final
Ariful Islam hammered a brilliant 90 ball-94 as Bangladesh sealed a spot in the final of Under-19 Asia Cup, securing a four- wicket win over mighty India at ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai today (Dec15). Bangladesh bowled India out for just 188 in 42.4 overs but India had Bangladesh wobbled at 34-3 before Ariful's sensible knock became instrumental in helping the side overhaul the target in 42.5 overs. Bangladesh will take on United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the final of youth Asia Cup on Sunday. UAE stunned Pakistan Under-19 team in the other semifinal by 11 runs today to confirm the final. Ariful got ably support from Ahrar Amin as they shared a 138-run partnership for the fourth wicket to edge the side closer to victory. As he closed in on century, medium pacer Raj Limbani had Ariful caught by Shahran to deny him the century by six runs. But Ariful who smashed nine fours and four sixes, including three sixes in an over of Saumy Pandey by then kept the side's nose ahead. Ahrar Amin played a laborious 44 off 101 with three fours and was out when Bangladesh was just two runs away from the victory. Earlier being sent to bat first, India were strangled by Maruf and were reduced to 61-6. Murugan Abhishek and Musheer Khan added 84-run for the seventh wicket to help the side recover from the ultimate shamble. Abhishek hit 74 ball-62 with six fours and two sixes while Musheer made 50 off 61, sending the ball across the ropes for three times. Source: BSS

Cricket World Cup: Australia beat India to win 6th title
Australia has achieved a six-wicket win over the host of the World Cup, breaking India's winning streak of 10 matches. Opener Travis Head hit 137, propelling Australia towards victory. Australia on Sunday achieved its sixth Cricket World Cup victory in a six-wicket win over India. This year's host was India, with the final match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the western Gujarat state. A crowd of over 92,000 people attended the event. Australia has the most World Cup wins of any team. India's last global title was the 2013 Champions Trophy. Opener Travis Head hit 137, propelling Australia towards victory. Australia reached its target in 43 overs, breaking India's winning streak of 10 matches. India was held to a modest 240 total. In the group stage just six weeks ago, India was holding a slim lead. Australia was defeated by India on October 8 and then by South Africa days later. India star batsman Virat Kohli ended the Sunday match having set a new record for most runs — 765 — at a single World Cup. Australia celebrate 'very special' win Pat Cummins said captaining Australia in the World Cup was the "pinnacle in cricket" following the win. "That's huge, that's the pinnacle in cricket, winning a World Cup, especially here in India, and these are the moments you remember for the rest of your life," said Cummins. "I was a little bit nervous this morning, pacing around the hotel," he said. "You know you are walking into something very special." India coach Rahul Dravid hailed captain Rohit Sharma's "fantastic" performance despite the host country's loss. "His batting was fantastic, the way he set the tone for us. We knew we wanted to play a certain way and we wanted to play a positive attacking brand of cricket," Dravid told reporters. "And he was very committed to doing that." "He wanted to lead by example. I thought right through the tournament, he was quite superb in doing that. And yeah, I just can't speak more highly of him as a person and as a leader." He said that India would learn from the defeat. "That's sport. That happens. And the better team won on the day. I'm sure the sun will come up tomorrow morning. We'll learn from it. We'll reflect and move on, as will everyone else," he said.

Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by three wickets
Chasing 280 runs, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 3 wickets with 53 balls remaining, and with this, Sri Lanka are eliminated from this ICC Men's World Cup 2023. Despite losing  Tanzid Hasan (9) and Litton Das (23) early, Bangladeshi batters Najmul Hossain Shanto (90) and skipper Shakib Al Hasan (82) kept the run rate steady with their 169 runs partnership.  Though Shanto and Hasan were also out later, and wickets kept on falling, Bangladesh managed to finish of  the game in 41.1 overs with three wickets remaining. Not only Bangladesh won the match, but also eliminated Sri Lanka from qualifying for the World Cup Semi-Finals.  For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka picked three wickets, while Maheesh Theekshana and Angelo Mathews took 2 wickets each. After this win, Bangladesh are now at 7th position, with 4 points and a NRR of (-)1.142, while Sri Lanka slipped to 8th spot with 4 points and a NRR of (-)1.160. Sri Lanka was all out on the score of 279 runs as Charith Asalanka slammed century to take his team's score forward. Bangladesh made a comeback in the death overs as Tanzim Hasan Sakib clinched 3 wickets.  Sri Lanka lost another two wickets in quick succession as Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Sadeera Samarawickrama and Angelo Mathews came on crease. Angelo Mathews's helmet was broken which took him sometime, but meanwhile Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a TIME OUT, which was accepted by the umpires Bangladesh is dominating the game at current stage as their bowling dismissed the Sri Lankan top order with Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perara and Kusal Mendis sitting back in the dugout. Charith Asalanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama are the two new batters on crease.  Shakib al Hasan's Bangladesh bat first at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis, who lost the toss, said he doesn't mind batting first and will be looking to post a total of more than 300. Bangladesh have had a terrible run at this year's ICC Cricket World Cup, losing 6 of their 7 matches after winning their opening match against Afghanistan. In their last match against Pakistan, Bangladesh suffered a crushing defeat as the batsmen failed to put up a good total and were dismissed for 204 while the bowlers struggled to restrict runs as the total was chased down in just 32.3 overs. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had enjoyed a decent World Cup campaign before successive defeats to Afghanistan and India in their last two matches. A 302-run thrashing at the hands of India meant that the Lankans were also eliminated from the tournament and are no longer in contention for a place in the semi-finals. While Sri Lanka have had the class of Dilshan Madushanka, one of the tournament's leading wicket-takers, their other bowlers have looked relatively pale. The humiliating defeat to India in their last encounter will also be fresh in the minds of the Lankan batsmen, who were bowled out for just 55 runs.
