Rangpur range DIG of Police Devdas Bhattacharja has said that not an intension of theft, rather enmity is the reason behind the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam. He said, Rabiul, an employee of the UNO office and main conspirator of the attack has been arrested. Ladder and hammer used during the attack on Wahida Khanam were recovered. He delivered the information on Saturday. Mentionable, at 3 am on September 3, some miscreants entered the Ghoraghat residence of the UNO after breaking the ventilator and attacked her and her freedom fighter father. They were admitted in Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Later as the condition of Wahida deteriorated she was airlifted to Dhaka from Rangpur and was admitted at National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka. Wahida Khanam’s brother Sheikh Farid filed an attempt to murder case with Ghoraghat police station under Dinajpur district accusing two unidentified attackers. AH

The court has granted seven-day remand for prime accused Asadul Haque in connection with the attempted murder case of Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam. The other two accused in this case are Nabirul Islam and Santu Kumar. On Sunday afternoon Asadul was produced before the court of Dinajpur senior judicial magistrate Maniruzzaman. The Investigation Officer sought for 10-day remand and the court granted for seven days. On Saturday afternoon Asadul was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital due to breathing problem. Asadul was not present on Friday when the other two accused were produced before the press conference of RAB-13. Meanwhile, the case of attempt to kill UNO Wahida Khanam and her father Omor Ali was transferred to the Detective Branch. On Wednesday midnight the miscreants attacked the UNO and her father at her official residence at Ghoraghat under Dinajpur district. Later they were admitted to Rangpur medical College Hospital for treatment. As the condition of Wahida deteriorated she was airlifted to Dhaka. Currently she is undergoing treatment at National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital in the capital after a successful critical operation there. AH

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has informed about the reason of attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam. RAB-13 delivered the information at a press briefing in Rangpur on Friday evening. RAB said that the miscreants entered the house of Wahida Khanam with a motive to steal. They attacked her as she tried to bar them from stealing. In the press briefing it was said that the main accused of the attempt to murder case are Asadul Islam, Shantu and Nabirul. They also confess about their association with the incident. In the primary interrogation they said that they entered the house through the ventilator. At that time Wahida woke up and tried to bar them from stealing. Whether they entered the house with a motive to steal or not that will be further investigated. Mentionable, on Wednesday midnight miscreants attacked Ghoraghat UNO and her father at her official residence in Ghoraghat under Dinajpur district. The miscreants attacked them with sharp weapons. Later they were admitted to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital. As the condition of Wahida deteriorated she was airlifted to Dhaka on Thursday. Currently she is undergoing treatment at National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital in the capital. AH 

The post operation CT scan report of injured Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam is well. Wahida, now under 72 hours of post operative observation, has talked to her husband and on duty physicians. In this regard neurotrauma section head of National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital and neurosurgeon Mohammad Zahid Hossain said, so far, her all health parameters are very good. We feared about the CT scan report but it has come hundred percent good. Medical board head Zahid Hossain also said, she is well by the grace of Allah. She has talked to us. She is fully conscious. There were nine hits on her head. We have repaired those. Her one side is paralyzed at the moment. It will take time to recover the condition. On Thursday night a six-member physician team performed the two hour long critical operation on Wahida Khanam. After the operation she has been kept 72 hours observation. On Wednesday midnight the miscreants attacked Wahida Khanam and her father at her official residence in Ghoraghat under Dinajpur district. Later they were admitted to the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. As the condition of Wahida deteriorated she was airlifted to Dhaka on Thursday. Currently she is undergoing treatment at National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital. AH       

The condition of Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam, who suffered serious injuries in an attack by miscreants on Thursday, is now stable, said a physician at the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital. “Her condition is stable after doctors conducted a surgery from 9:30 pm to 11 pm on Thursday. She’s undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU),” said Dr Badrul Alam, joint director of the hospital. “Doctors at the ICU have informed me she (Wahida) is stable now and today they’ll conduct some tests,” he said while talking to UNB over phone. Wahida Khanam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ghoraghat, was seriously injured in an attack by miscreants at her home on the Upazila Parishad premises early Thursday. Her father Omar Ali was also injured in the gruesome attack. They were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police in a joint drive arrested the prime suspect of the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam from Kaliganj in Hili area of Dinajpur district early Friday. The arrestee was identified as Asadul Haque, 35, son of Amzad Hossain of Osmanpur in the upazila. Tipped off, a team of police from Hakimpur, Birampur and Ghoraghat police stations, and Rab members conducted a joint drive in the area around 4:50 am and arrested Asadul, said Wahid Ferdous, officer-in-charge of Hakimpur Police Station. Later, he was taken to Rab office in Rangpur district. Wahida Khanam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ghoraghat, was seriously injured in an attack by miscreants at her home on the Upazila Parishad premises early Thursday. Her father was also injured in the gruesome attack. They were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. The critically injured Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam has been taken to the operation theatre. With injury on her head after attack by the unknown miscreants, Wahida was taken to the operation theatre after 9 pm on Thursday at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. Earlier, the CT Scan was performed and her Blood Pressure was checked. Wahida’s colleagues confirmed the information. Ghoraghat UNO Wahida and her father were under attack by the miscreants at her official residence in Ghoraghat on Wednesday midnight. Later they were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. As the condition of Wahida Khanam deteriorated she was shifted to Dhaka from Rangpur Cantonment boarded on a helicopter. AH   

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the concerned authority for providing better and developed treatment to critically injured Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam. After visiting the UNO at Neuroscience Hospital in the capital State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said this to the newsmen on Thursday. He also informed that the attackers were not known to the UNO. Wahida Khanam and her father came under attack by some miscreants at her Ghoraghat official residence on Wednesday midnight. Later they were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Her father is undergoing treatment at the hospital. As the condition of Wahida deteriorated she was shifted to Dhaka. On Thursday noon she was brought to Dhaka from Rangpur Cantonment boarded on an air ambulance. Wahida Khanam is currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital. AH

Director of National Institute of Neuroscience Hospital Qazi Deen Mohammad has said, as the condition of Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam is very critical she cannot be operated at the moment. Her skull is severely damaged. She also cannot be shifted to abroad at the moment. Dr. Deen Mohammad delivered the information to the newsmen in the afternoon. Earlier, the injured UNO was brought to Dhaka in an air ambulance from Rangpur cantonment. On Wednesday midnight UNO Wahida Khanam and her father came under attack at her official residence in Ghoraghat upazila. Later they were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. As the condition of Wahida Khanam deteriorated she was shifted to Dhaka. Her father is undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. In this regard Additional District Magistrate of Dinajpur said, they came under attack in the night of Wednesday. But it is still unclear why the incident has happened. Officer in Charge of Ghoraghat police station said, the CCTV footage of the UNO’s residence has been collected. The culprits will be traced. AH 

Two ruling party MPs on Monday demanded departmental probe into why Sadar Upazila Nirhabi Officer (UNO) of Narayanganj Hosne Ara Begum Bina has been made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) during her pregnancy for unknown reasons. Reports UNB. Taking floor on the point of order, former State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki raised the issue in parliament while AL MP Shamim Osman supported her regretting the incident in his constituency. Citing Bina’s Facebook post, Chumki said Bina conceived after nine years of their marriage. “When she went to doctor for checkup, she suddenly came to know that she was made OSD and fell sick instantly due to mental stress.” Bina later gave birth to a premature baby who is now in hospital in a critical state, the AL MP said adding, “We can realise her mental situation and the condition of her baby at this moment.”    Shamim wanted to know at whose directive Bina had been made OSD and mentioned that UNO Bina carried out her duty successfully in the December-30 national election in his constituency. “After knowing that she is pregnant, I even advised her not to take stress while discharging her duties in the election. But I feel ashamed that the honest and successful UNO was made OSD which was nothing but injustice to her,” Shamim said. Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia who was presiding over the House expressed the hope that the Public Administration Minister will take realistic steps in this regard. A day after she was made OSD on February 4, Bina gave birth to a ‘moderately preterm’ baby at 31 weeks through caesarean section at a hospital in the capital on February 5. She made a Facebook post in the early hours of February 9, expressing her disappointment at the treatment she received, taking the administration by storm. According to the Facebook post, Bina joined the UNO post of Sadar upazila nine months ago. In the last nine years of her conjugal life, she failed to conceive even after treatment.  However, she came to know five months ago that she was two months pregnant. In such a situation, she performed the duty as an assistant returning officer in the December-30 election without taking any leave. Her possible date of delivery was April 20.  Without mentioning the name, the UNO alleged that a particular officer tried to transfer her from Narayanganj proving her worthless to different levels since her pregnancy. She said she went to Square Hospitals Ltd in the capital on February 4 for checkup. While waiting there for a test in the evening, she received a phone call from one of her batch mates who informed her that she was made an OSD.  “After hearing the news, I failed to endure the mental pressure. I’m an asthma patient. Due to tremendous mental pressure, the blood circulation of my lungs dropped abnormally. As a result, the oxygen supply to my baby in the womb stopped totally and it stopped movement,” Bina wrote. She said doctors decided to conduct the caesarean section instantly to save the baby. Following the decision of her family, she delivered the baby at 31 weeks through caesarean section in the morning the following day. “The baby is now fighting for its life at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Square Hospitals,” the UNO wrote in the post. Contacted, Additional Public Administration Secretary Shaikh Yusuf Harun told UNB over phone that the UNO had been made an OSD as she is ill, not as punishment. “The UNO is an asthma patient. She will not be able to perform her duties during the upcoming upazila parishad elections properly. And again, an officer can’t be transferred once the Election Commission announces the polls schedule. So, she was made on OSD. This is not a punishment,” he said. The additional secretary also said Bina could have complained to them without making the Facebook post.   AH
