BCB announces preliminary squad for Zimbabwe T20s
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today announced a 17-member preliminary squad for the five-match T20 International series against Zimbabwe, starting on May 3. Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman were not included in the squad as they are not in the country at this moment.  All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin found a place in the preliminary squad, raising a hope to get back into the national team after 2022.  Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, the chairman of national team selection panel, said the players of this squad will get the priority to be on the flight of USA and West Indies, which will host T20 World Cup. "Unfortunately Shakib and Mustafizur haven't been in the country at this moment, so we couldn't keep them in the squad. Soumya also has an injury concern. He has been under observation but still he is in the squad so that he can take part in the strategic lecture session," Lipu was quoted in a video message sent by the BCB today. "Mehidy Hasan Miraz is not in the squad but if any off spinner gets injured, he can make his way. He has played so many T20 matches. There are some who are out of the squad because we don't need them at the moment. But they would have the opportunity. Basically these players will get the priority in making the T20 World Cup squad," he added. Zimbabwe will arrive in Bangladesh on April 28 after which they will travel to Chattogram straightway.  Chattogram Zahur Ahmed Chowhdury Stadium will host the first three matches on May 3, 5 and 7. The teams will then travel to Dhaka where the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium hosts the last two matches on May 10 and 12. Preliminary Squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto, Liton Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah Riyad, Jaker Ali Anik, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanvir Islam, Afif Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Saifuddin, Soumya Sarkar.   Source: BSS

Ajinkya Rahane in World Test Championship squad
India named a 15-man squad for the final of the Test Championship on Tuesday, April 25. Ajinkya Rahane back in the test squad. That is the only surprise in the India's Test team. The series India vs Australia will start from June 7 at Kennington Oval, London. Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from team after the Test against South Africa last year. The 34-year-old veteran batsman is back in the squad after almost a year and a half.  In the final team of the World Test Championship, India included the batsman, who recently showed an extraordinary performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). BCCI has named a 15-man squad for the final of the Test Championship today, April 24. That is the only surprise in the Test team. After being dropped, Rahane scored 634 runs at an average of 57.63 in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy. In the ongoing IPL, he has scored 209 runs so far in 5 matches at a strike rate of 199.04 for Chennai Super Kings. Shreyas Iyer's injury also played a role in Rahane's comeback. Due to injury, the right-handed batter is not playing in the IPL.  Ajinkya Rahane, who back in the test team, is also a strong contender for a place in the playing XI. Because KL Rahul has been out of tune for a long time. He also lost the vice-captaincy. India kept Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. However, Suryakumar lost his place because he could not show his calibre.  Srikar Bharat is filling in as a keeper batsman. Rahul can be considered as a backup. India has kept four pacers in the squad. Jaydev Unadkat is with Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav.  Besides, Shardul Thakur, the pace all-rounder. There are two spinning all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.  Aksar Patel also retained the place. India squad for World Test Championship final: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat.   Point to be noted, India are the current runners-up in the World Test Championship. Last time, India lost against New Zealand in the final.

Keeping Shakib-Litton in squad the test team announced
It has been heard for the past few days that Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Kumar Das are going to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of playing the only Test against Ireland.  But the reality is different. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has remained steadfast in its decision regarding the two.  The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the Test team against Ireland keep in Shakib-Litton in the squad. The BCB announced the 14-member squad for the Test Saturday, April 1 in a statement.  No new surprises in the team. But the presence of Shakib-Litton will undoubtedly give relief to the team management. Because they are one of the most important members of the team in test format as in other two formats. Shakib-Litton did not go to play in the IPL as they have not received a no-objection letter (NOC) yet.  BCB did not give them a no-objection letter before the end of the Ireland series, mainly considering the national team.  However, these two cricketers will leave the country to play for Kolkata Knight Riders after playing the Test. The only Test between Bangladesh and Ireland will start from April 4. The match will be played at Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. Bangladesh Test Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (Captain), Litton Das (Vice Captain), Tamim Iqbal, Shadman Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Shoriful Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy.

Ebadot called up as Sabbir back for Tigers Asia Cup squad
Test regular Ebadot Hossain earned a maiden call while Sabbir Rahman who last played for national team three years ago was back in the fold as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 17-member squad for the Asia Cup, to be played in the UAE from August 27.  Senior player Mushfiqur Rahim and all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin were also back in the squad, led by Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh had missed the initial deadline for naming the squad, as the board was in trouble with Shakib's sponsorship issue with Betwinner News, a sister concern of betting company Betwinner. After Shakib cancelled the deal with Betwinner following BCB's pressure, the board named him captain until T20 World Cup.   "We have had elaborate discussion with the captain regarding the team since we are not good enough for T20 cricket," chief selectors Minhajul Abedin Nannu said today. "Considering all facets, we have formed this team. We didn't do well in Zimbabwe but we are hopeful that this team will do well in Asia Cup," he added. To fine tune the team for the World Cup, Bangladesh will get two tournaments-Asia Cup which will be held as T20 format and a tri-nation series in New Zealand, also involving Pakistan.  Bangladesh will be one of six teams contesting the main round of the Asia Cup, along with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and a qualifier. The identity of the qualifier will be known via a qualifying tournament that starts on August 20. Abedin said they included Sabbir, who last played a T20 game in September in 2019 against Afghanistan, in a bid to bolster their middle order. He said Sabbir's inclusion didn't come overnight or the failure of other players, rather his performance forced his way back to the side.  "Sabbir is an experienced player. He had an international exposure and he did well in domestic circuit. Since some of our players are injured, we need to bolster our middle order, so we thought Sabbir will fit according to our plan," Abedin remarked. "Sabbir played well in Dhaka Premier League and then he was in nursing with Bangladesh Tigers and in Bangladesh A team. So he had the required experience and exposure and we are hopeful that he will do well using his experience," he added. He further said that Ebadot was called up in T20 format due to his last BPL performance. "Ebadot though is a Test regular, he played well in limited over cricket. He had also done well in the last BPL, so we gave him a chance to show his credential in white ball cricket," Abdein remarked. The inclusion of Mushfiqur and Saifuddin were expected indeed. Mushfiqur played his last T20 game this year against Afghanistan and then he skipped West Indies series due to performing Hajj. He was rested in Zimbabwe series. Saifuddin however was out of national fold after the 2021 T20 World Cup following his recurring back injury. He this time proved his fitness. The selectors also kept Nurul Hasan Sohan in the team despite having a stitch following a surgery on his finger. "Sohan's stitch will be taken away on August 21 and we expect that he will feel okay. That's why he is kept in the team," Abdein informed. The selectors however still back Mahmudullah Riyad and kept him in the squad despite his prolonged lean batting patch.    Bangladesh Squad for Asia Cup:  Shakib Al Hasan (Captain), Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain , Parvez Hossain Emon.
