Train fares set to rise from May 4
Bangladesh Railway has withdrawn rebate on fares for passengers traveling more than 100 kilometers from May 4. As a result, all types of train fares are increasing. According to Bangladesh Railway officials, it gives about 20-30 percent rebate for travelling over 100km. Director General of Bangladesh Railway Sardar Sahadat Ali, confirmed the information to the media on Monday (April 22). 'The costs of train passengers travelling over 100 kilometres are likely to rise from May 4, as Bangladesh Railway will not provide the existing rebate facility from that day,' said Sahadat Ali. Train fares will be adjusted by withdrawing the the rebate from May 4, he said. However, in response to a question about the rate at which the train fare is increasing, the DG said it will be fixed the commercial branch of the railway.

Nation set to celebrate Pahela Baishakh on Sunday
The country is set to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year 1431. The day will be celebrated through various arrangements upholding the rich cultural values. Preparations are underway at the Fine Arts of Dhaka University to welcome Baishakh. On Saturday (April 13) afternoon, it was seen that the artists are passing busy time at the last moment at the Fine Arts premises of Dhaka University (DU). On the first day of Bengali New Year , people from all walks of life usually wear traditional Bengali dresses. Men wear white pyjamas and panjabi where Women wear white sarees with red borders and adorn themselves with bangles and flowers. Through Pahela Baishakh the Bangalees bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new year.  To celebrate the day the programmes will begin in the capital with the musical soiree of Chhayanat at Ramna Batamul at dawn. The traditional Mangal Shobhajatra will be brought out from Dhaka University (DU) Fine Arts Faculty premises early in the morning. Various paintings have already been painted on the walls of the Faculty of Fine Arts of DU. The walls of the university are bing decorated with various pictures of nature. The graffiti of Flowers, fish, boats, tigers, peacocks and  have been placed by the students. Viewers turn around looking at the paintings of the artists. Apart from this, the work of masks, dolls and painting is going on inside the fine arts for the Mangal Shobhajatra.

Nation set to celebrate 54th Independence Day
The whole nation is set to celebrate its' 54th Independence today (26 March) in a befitting manner. The government has taken elaborate programmes at the national level to celebrate the day. The programmes to celebrate 54th Independence day will begin with gun salutes early in the morning. All government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutaion will hoist the national flag atop with the rises of the sun. However, The National Martyrs' Memorial at Savar will be the main venue of the day's celebration. President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will place floral wreaths early in the morning as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of 1971. In that day people from all walks of life, including freedom fighters, members of the diplomatic corps, leaders of different political parties, social, cultural and professional bodies, will also place floral wreaths at the national memorial.

Padma Bank set to merge with Exim Bank
Padma Bank is going to be merged with Exim Bank. The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting of the Board of directors of Exim Bank. Bangladesh Bank has been informed about the merger of the two banks. Chairman of Exim Bank, Nazrul Islam Mazumder, confirmed the matter to the media on Thursday (March 14). Padma Bank is set to merge with Exim Bank, marking the first voluntary merger in Bangladesh's history. Padma Bank, which has long been struggling with bad loans, set to merge with Exim Bank marking the first voluntary merger in  history Bangladesh. A director of Exim Bank said, "We have decided to merge the private Padma Bank with our bank. Soon it will be sent to Bangladesh Bank for permission. It will come into effect after the approval of the regulatory body."

Deepika Padukone set for her next Hollywood project
The third season of the American comedy-drama show shall be filmed in Thailand. The 'Fighter' actress is yet to confirm the news. Deepika Padukone was seen in her first Hollywood project XXX: Return Of Xander Cage back in 2017. She’s all set for a yet another biggie and according to a report by Zoom, it’s none other than the third season of The White Lotus. The third season of the American comedy-drama show shall be filmed in Thailand. The ‘Fighter‘ actress is yet to confirm the news.   Deepika’s Fighter is nearing its release, and the excitement among the masses is rising at a fever pitch. The trailer of the film has set a perfect tone with its power-packed action sequence, the best state-of-the-art visual effects in 3D and 3D IMAX formats till date, and the sizzling chemistry of Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone.   All this has left the audience excited to watch the film on the big screens and without any delay, the makers have opened the advance booking windows from today (Jan 21).   The advance booking of Fighter has commenced bringing the audience a chance to pre-book their tickets for the adrenaline-pumping action-packed ride. 4 dead as train set on fire in Dhaka
At least four people were burned to death as an intercity train caught on fire in the capital’s Gopibagh. The deceased could not be identified yet.  The Benapole Express train caught on fire at around 9:05pm on Friday (Jan 5).    Seven firefighting units brought the blaze under control at 10:20pm, said Rakibul Hasan, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence. At least five compartments of the train have been set ablaze by miscreants.  Ashraf Hossain, sub-inspector of Dhaka Railway Police Station, said they received information about the fire from the emergency service number 999 around 9:07pm. Police officials feared that people could be trapped inside.

2 buses set on fire in the capital
Arsonists torched two buses in the capital's Mirpur and Gulistan tonight, on the eve of BNP's dawn to dusk blockade. A parked bus of Trust Transport Services was set on fire around 10:30pm in front of Farmers Bank, Mirpur 13, said Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farukul Alam. On information, two fire engines went to the spot and brought the fire under control at 10:52pm, said Ahsan Habib, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room. In Gulistan, a bus of Rajanigandha Paribahan was set on fire beside Gulistan toll plaza around 9:15pm. Two fire engines of Siddique Bazar Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 9:27pm, said Rashid Bin Khaled, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room. There were no reports of casualties in the fires.

Pogba's doping hearing set for January 18
Paul Pogba will face Italy's anti-doping tribunal on January 18 after testing positive for testosterone earlier this year. The Juventus and former Manchester United midfielder faces a potentially lengthy ban following the hearing at the NADO tribunal in Rome. Neither the tribunal nor Pogba's representatives responded to requests for confirmation of the hearing date.   Last week anti-doping prosecutors called for Pogba, 30, to be banned for four years following his provisional suspension in September. Pogba could cut his requested ban in half if he demonstrates that he did not intentionally dope, while he may only be suspended for a few months if he can prove the banned substance was taken out of competition and did not have an impact on his performance.   His representatives said last month that the testosterone came from a food supplement prescribed by a doctor he consulted in the United States.

At least 212 vehicles set on fire in 30 days
A total of 212 incidents of arson attacks recorded countrywide till 6:00am today since October 28. This information is confirmed by Md Shahjahan Shikdar, Deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence on Tuesday (November 28). The Fire Service says, "Miscreants set fire to 5 vehicles in last 24 hours." However, 1 train compartment, 3 buses and 1 truck were damaged in the 24 hours. During this period, total 10 units of fire service and civil defense and 30 members of firefighting units had worked to douse the fires in the whole country. Furthermore, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with its alliance partners have been observing countrywide blockade and dawn-to-dusk hartal in several times since October 28, for their demand on the cancellation of the 12th Jatiya Sangshad election schedule and the resignation of the ruling party Awami League government, alternatively they want to hand over the power to a poll-time-party-neutral caretaker government.

48 hours blockade started, 4 buses set on fire 
48 hours blockade has been started from today, November 5 by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Meanwhile, 4 buses were set on fire at Elephant road, Sayedabad, Newmarket and Gulistan in the capital on Saturday evening. Rozina Akhter, Duty Officer of Fire Service Headquarters confirmed the news. She said, Miscreants set fire to a Green University bus in front of Multiplan City on Elephant Road around 7:30 pm. Five minutes later another bus named Mirpur Link was set on fire in front of Chandni Chowk gate in Newmarket area.
