PM Sheikh Hasina who is Awami League President and party's parliamentary nomination board chief as well will exchange her views with Awami League's nomination aspirants for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election at Ganabhaban at 10 am by tomorrow.  A press release which is signed by Awami League office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua said, "Awami League President and party's parliamentary nomination board chief Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting." All the member's of Awami League's National Election Steering Committee formed for the 12th national parliamentary elections and party's all nomination aspirants are requested to attend the meeting on time with photo-copy of NID card and received copy of nomination papers (photo-copy of online forms) by Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader.

PM emphasized the importance of maintaining the continuity of democracy and stability in order to ensure ongoing development and progress in the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today stressed the significance of upholding democracy and stability for the continuous development and progress of the country.  She said, "Pray to Allah so that democracy and stability in the country remain intact.  Due to the long-standing democracy in the country, we have been able to transform the country into a developing nation." Prime Minister stated, "It would not have been possible to achieve this if democracy and stability were not maintained."  On Thursday, july 06, she made these remarks during the inauguration of a new office for  the officers of the parliament secretariat at the at the North Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban. Referring to the enduring struggle for democracy, the Prime Minister sheikh Hasina reminded everyone that it did not come in a day. Later, she visited various sections of the Office.  Among others, Deputy Leader of the House Matia Chowdhury, cabinet members, deputy speaker, chief whip, whips, lawmakers and officials concerned were present on the occasion.

Local Government (Pourosova) (Amendment) Bill, 2021 today passed in the Jatiya Sangsad with an aim to bring more amendment of local Government (Pourosova) Act 2009. Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Tazul Islam moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. Opposition lawmakers including Rustam Ali Farazi, Pir Fazlur Rahman, Rawshan Ara Mannan, BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid and Gonoforum lawmaker Mokabbir Khan opposed the enactment of the law and called for seeking more public review.   While piloting the bill, the minister said the bill has been raised in the parliament for making it more effective after brining some amendment in the law.   Earlier,the amendment has been approved by the government to stop pouroshova chairmen from staying in office for more than 5 years.   The Cabinet gave final approval to the Local Government (Pourosova) (Amendment) Bill, 2021, aiming to strictly follow the system of holding local government polls every five years.    It has been seen that some pourosova chairmen go to court at the end of their tenure and restrict the holding of the next election.   Even some chairmen had stayed in office for more than five years, up to even 15-16 years, taking the advantage of a clause in the existing law that stated that the present chairman will remain in chair till the next election.   “To stop this practice, the government has made this amendment to the 2009 law,” said the minister.   The proposed law said that after the five-year term, the government would be able to appoint an administrator either from the government services, with administrative experience, or any other eligible person.   “The appointed administrator will remain in the post for a maximum of six months and elections have to be held by this time,” Tazul said.   The government also decided to make the eligibility for enlistment of any new pourosova with 1,500 people per square kilometre from 2000.   It also changed the name of pourosova member to pouro executive officer.   Furthermore, it was decided that the proposed law would include another clause that if any pourosova fails to pay the salaries and other wages of its officers and employees for 12 months, then the government may abolish its status as a pourosova. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have banned all sorts of procession, public gathering, rally and demonstration in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and its adjacent areas from 12 am of Saturday (6 January) ahead of 19th session of 10th national parliament. There is also ban on carrying all kinds of arms, explosive materials, other harmful and hazardous materials. The orders will be effective till the parliament session is concluded. The information came in through a press release signed by DMP Commissioner Md. Asaduzzaman Miah on Friday. The 19th session of parliament will commence from January 7 (Sunday) at 4 pm. Areas under restrictions The roads and areas that come under the purview of the ban are Mohakhali crossing to Bangla Motor through Old Airport; west corner of Bangla Motor Link Road to Saarc Foara (fountain), east side of Panthapath to Farmgate via Green Road intersection; Shyamoli to Dhanmondi Road 16 (old 27); Rokeya Sarani intersection to Bijay Sarani via Old Ninth Division circle; east side of Indira Road to west side of Manik Mia Avenue and the restricted areas around the parliament building.
