Barguna Rifat killing: Death reference at High Court
The death reference in Rifat Sharif killing case reached the High Court Division on Sunday. High Court Special Officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman said it has been sent to the bench concerned. On September 30, Rifat Sharif’s wife Aysha Siddika Minni and five others were sentenced to death over his killing in Barguna in broad daylight last year. District and Sessions Judge Md Asaduzzaman delivered the verdict. Death reference is sent to the High Court for approval of the death penalty of the convicts. Later, the court will hold a hearing on the death reference after preparing a paperbook on it. Currently, the death reference hearing of different cases filed in 2014-2015 is being held at the High Court. Rifat, 22, was hacked to death in broad daylight in the district town on June 26 last year. He was attacked near the main gate of Barguna Government College. Surveillance camera footage showed his wife Minni apparently trying to save him. Twenty-four people were accused in the murder case filed by Rifat’s father. Minni, initially named as a witness, was later arrested on July 16 last year and made an accused. Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon Bond, the main accused, was killed in an alleged gunfight with police on July 2. A Barguna court on January 1 indicted Minni and nine others for Rifat’s murder. Rifat murder: Charges framed against 10 including Minni
The court has framed charges against 10 adult charge sheet accused in connection with Rifat Sharif murder case. The charges were framed against the accused after hearing before the court of Barguna district and session judge Md. Asaduzzaman on Wednesday. The court will begin hearing of testimony in this case on January 8. Mahbubul Bari Aslam, lawyer of Ayesha Siddika Minni confirmed the information. Investigation Officer of the case, Md. Humayun Kabir gave charge sheet against 24 accused in this sensational murder case on September 2. The charge sheet accused are- Rakibul Hasan alias Rifat Farazi (23), Al Kaiyum alias Rabbi Akon (21), Mohaiminul Islam Sifat (19), Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy (22), Md. Hasan (19), Md. Musa (22), Ayesha Siddika Minni (19), Rafiul Islam Rabbi (20), Md. Sagor (19) and Kamrul Hasan Saimun (21). The charge sheet accused who were treated as children are- Rashidul Hasan Rishan alias Rishan Farazi (17), Rakibul Hasan Rifat Hawlader (15), Abu Abdullah alias Raihan (16), Oliullah alias Oli (16), Joy Chandra Sarkar alias Chandan (17), Md. Nayeem (17), Tanvir Hossain (17), Nazmul Hasan (14), Rakibul Hasan Niamat (15), Syed Maruf Billah alias Mahibullah (17), Maruf Mallik (17), Prince Mollah (15), Ratul Shikder Joy (16) and Ariyan Hossain Shraban (16). Another adult accused Musa Bond is yet to be arrested. Teenager accused Prince Mollah is on bail granted by the High Court. Besides, Ayesha Siddika Minni is also on bail granted by the High Court. Mentionable, Rifat Sharif was hacked sporadically in front of Barguna Government College on June 26 last year. Later he succumbed to his injuries on that day. AH

Rifat murder: SC upholds Minni’s bail
The Chamber Judge Court of the Appellate Division upheld permanent bail of Rifat’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni granted by the High Court in connection with sensational Rifal Sharif murder case in Barguna. Justice Hasan Foez Siddique of the Appellate Division passed ‘No order’ on a government petition seeking stay on High Court verdict. Senior lawyer ZI Khan Panna stood before the court in the hearing for Minni while Deputy Attorney General Zahid Sarwar Kazal stood for the state. Later, Minni’s lawyer ZI Khan Panna said, there is no legal bar for Minni to get released from the jail. According to the court sources, the High Court granted permanent bail to Minni on August 29. But the court also gave condition that Minni cannot speak to the media. Otherwise her bail will be cancelled. Later, on Sunday (September 1) the state filed a petition seeking suspension of Minni’s bail granted by the High Court. Hearing took place on Monday upon the plea. Mentionable, Nayan Bond and his associates hacked Rifat Sharif to death at around 10:30 am on June 26 in front of Barguna Government College. Video of the incident went viral on social media which created much impact in people’s mind. In this connection Rifat’s father Abdul Halim Sharif filed a case with Barguna Sadar police station mentioning 12 names. Later on July 16 Minni was taken to the police lines for interrogation. Rifat murder: Charge sheet against 24 including Minni
Police have submitted charge sheet against 24 people including Rifat’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni in the sensational Rifat Sharif murder case in Barguna. Investigation Officer Md. Humayun Kabir submitted the charge sheet to the court of Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sirajul Islam Gazi at around 4:30 pm on Sunday. Barguna Police Super Md. Maruf Hossain confirmed the matter to the media through a press release. The prime accused of Rifat murder case Nayan Bond’s name was excluded from the charge sheet as he was killed in a gunfight on July 2. Police were not agreed to deliver information about the accused mentioned in the charge sheet. Rifat Sharif was hacked to death in front of Barguna Government College in broad day light at around 10:30 am on June 26. Video of the incident went viral on social media and created huge reaction among people. In this connection Rifat’s father Abdul Halim Sharif filed a case on June 27 mentioning 12 names. There Ayesha Siddika Minni was made prime witness. But after 18 days Abdul Halim at a press conference alleged that Minni was involved in the murder and the incident turned into a new dimension. Later Minni was arrested in connection with the case. Police said, in this case all the arrested accused gave confessional statement under section 164 before the court. Earlier, on August 29 the High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman granted conditional bail for Minni. AH

Rifat murder: HC judgment on Minni’s bail Thursday
The High Court fixed Thursday to deliver its judgment on a rule asking the government to explain as to why Ayesha Siddika Minni should not be granted bail in a case filed over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif. The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman fixed the date after completing hearing on the rule on Wednesday. Reports UNB. During the hearing, Minni’s lawyer ZI Panna Khan said Minni will neither be able to flee or interfere in the investigation of the case after having bail as she is only a 19-year-old woman. Deputy Attorney General Sarowar Hossain who moved for the state argued that Minni should not get bail as she had talked over cellphone to key accused Nayon Bond eight times before and after the murder and she is the mastermind of the killing. On August 20, the High Court issued the rule and asked the investigation officer of the case to appear before it on the next hearing day with the case documents. The High Court on August 8 refused to grant bail to Minni in the case, saying that the court can issue a rule but cannot grant her bail right now. The court also said they have to examine the confessional statement of the accused in the case. On June 26, Rifat Sharif, 22, was attacked with sharp weapons near the main gate of Barguna Government College. Minni appeared to be trying to protect him during the attack. Police have so far arrested 16 people over the murder. Besides, main accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers on July 2. Police arrested Minni on July 16 over the murder of her husband and was denied bail several times. She reportedly confessed to her involvement in the murder before the court on July 19, two days after her arrest. On July 31, Minni filed a petition with a Barguna court seeking withdrawal of her confessional statement over the murder. AH
