Evaley chairman and CEO on three-day remand
A court in Dhaka today (Friday) placed e-commerce company Evaly chief executive officer (CEO) Mohammad Rassel and his wife and company Chairman Shamima Nasrin on three-day remand each in a case lodged over embezzlement of customer's money.    Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order as police produced the couple before the court and investigation officer (IO) and Gulshan Police Station sub-inspector Wahidul Islam pleaded to place them on 10-day remand.    Defence counsel Advocate Moniruzzaman Liton, however, argued for their bail. After hearing both the sides, the court placed Rassel and Nasrin on three-day remand each.    Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur on September 16 had set October 21 to submit a probe report in the case. The court came up with the order after accepting the first information report (FIR) of the case.    One Arif Baker, a customer of Evaly, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station. Mohammad Rassel and Shamima Nasrin were detained from their Mohammadpur flat in the afternoon on September 16.    According to the case documents, the victim and a couple of his friends ordered some products through the e-commerce platform in the months of May and June. But they didn't get any product in spite of paying the money in advance. They repeatedly called the Evaly customer care numbers, but they didn't pay any heed to their calls.    On September 9, they went to the Dhanmandi headquarters of Evaly, where Evaly staff along with its CEO threatened them and said they (victims) would neither get their money, nor the products. Assaulting Navy officer: Irfan, his bodyguard on 3-day remand
Irfan Selim, the suspended Councilor of Ward 30 under Dhaka South City Corporation, and his bodyguard Zahid were remanded in police custody for three days on Wednesday in a case filed over the assault on a Navy officer. Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order when police produced them before the court and sought seven days to interrogate them. Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy filed the case at Dhanmondi Police Station naming four people. Apart from Haji Selim’s son Irfan and Zahid, the other accused are -- AB Siddique Dipu, 45, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 30. All four are now behind bars. According to the case statement, a car hit Wasif's motorcycle near Labaid Hospital at Dhanmondi around 7:45pm on Sunday when he and his wife were returning to their Mohammadpur residence from Nilkhet. Some people came out of the car and physically assaulted the navy official and verbally abused his wife. RAB arrested Irfan from his father Haji Selim’s residence on Devdas Lane in Old Dhaka on Monday afternoon. Two firearms, 38 walkie-talkies and liquor were seized from Irfan’s house during the drive. Later, a RAB mobile court sentenced Irfan and Zahid to one year in jail for possessing illegal walkie-talkies and drinking liquor. RAB said they were given six-month jail each for drinking liquor and another six months for the illegal possession of walkie-talkies. Meanwhile, the government suspended Irfan from the post of councilor on Tuesday. Raihan’s custodial death: Another constable granted 5-day remand
A court on Saturday placed a police constable who was suspended over the death of Raihan at Bandarbazar police outpost in Sylhet on a five-day remand.  The accused cop was identified as Harunur Rashid, constable of Bandarbazar police outpost. Metropolitan Magistrate Judge Sharmin Khanam passed the order, said Investigation Officer Muhidul Islam of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Rashid was arrested on Friday night. Earlier, on October 20, PBI arrested constable Titu Chandra Das in the case. He is now on a five-day remand. On October 11, Rayhan Ahmed, 34, a resident of Akharia in Sylhet city, was beaten to death in police custody, said the family of the victim. His wife Tahmina Akter Tanni filed a case with  Kotwali Police Station on the following day accusing a number of unidentified people. Besides, the authorities on October 12  suspended four policemen, including the in-charge of Bandarbazar Police outpost Sub-Inspector Akbar Hossain, in connection with the death of a man ‘in police custody’ in Sylhet. They are-- SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiya, constable Harun Rashid, Touhid Mia and Titu Chandra. Akbar has gone into hiding. Three policemen have been withdrawn in this connection on the same day. They are Ashek Ali, Kutub Ali and Sajib Hossain. Police rejected the allegation and said Rayhan was caught by locals of Kastghar area during a robbery and was lynched. Besides, the case has been transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation. Meanwhile, Sylhet Metropolitan Police formed a probe body headed by its additional deputy commissioner Shahrier Al Mamun to look into the death of Raihan. Sinha murder: Four policemen placed on fresh remand
Four suspended policemen have been taken on a second phase of four-day remand by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a case filed over the murder of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan. The four policemen are assistant sub-inspector Litan Miah and constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun. A team of Rapid Action Battalion took them from the district jail around 11:00am for further questioning, said jail superintendent Md Mokammel Hossain. Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Khairul Islam, also investigation officer of the case, said the four accused were placed on four-day remand on August 24. Earlier, RAB remanded three other members of the police, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das, inspector Liaquat and ASI Nandadulal, for questioning. Among them, Pradeep was remanded for 15 days in four phases and Liaquat and Nandadulal Rakshit for 14 days in three phases. Although Liaquat and Nandadulal made confessional statements under section 164, Pradeep did not agree. They are all in jail now. Eight people, including three members of APBN, have so far made confessional statements. Meanwhile, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development) of Chattagram Division Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said the committee formed by the Home Ministry to probe the murder will submit a report to the ministry by September 7. Major (retd) Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31. Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed the case with Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on August 5. Source: UNB AH
