Razzak first Bangladeshi to take 600 wickets
Veteran left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak of Khulna Division has become the first Bangladesh bowler to take 600 first class wickets. He reached the milestone bagging seven wickets conceding 69 runs against Rangpur Division on day-1 of the 4th round of the National Cricket League (NCL) on Saturday.   “I’m happy, very happy. I must say taking 600 wickets in the first-class cricket is not a joke. I’m fortunate enough to be the first Bangladeshi cricketer to do so,” an emotional Abdur Razzak told the media at the end of the first day’s play at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur in the evening. “It requires too much skill to achieve the record. I’m not skilled enough to do so. But I did it. I’m feeling really lucky. I always try to do well whenever I get a chance to prove myself. I never thought that I can reach this level. But it’s true that I did it,” he added.  The southpaw started playing first-class cricket in 2001-2002 season. Since then, he has been playing regularly well in domestic cricket. At the same time, he played for the national side for more than 10 years. Like in domestic cricket, he enjoyed enormous success in international cricket as well.  “I don’t like to say goodbye to professional cricket at this moment. I just can say I’ll keep playing cricket as long as my mind wants. Everything depends on the fitness as well,” Razzak said.  Along the process of taking 600 wickets in first-class cricket, Razzak registered five or more wickets in an innings for 39 times, which is also the record of the most five-for haul in the first-class cricket for the Bangladeshis. Razzak back to test after four years
Still he has more to deliver for the national team. The 35 years old spinner Abdur Razzak has shown that in the recent. He has achieved the milestone of taking 500 wickets in the first class cricket as a first Bangladeshi. At present his wicket number is 510 in playing 114 matches. Razzak took the memorial trophy of taking 500 wickets from the hands of test captain Shakib Al Hasan. And he got the call in the national team as a replacement of Shakib. Shakib is out of the first test against Sri Lanka after getting finger injury while fielding in the tri-nation final match on Saturday. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) included Sanjamul Islam and Tanbir Haydar in the test squad on Saturday evening. And on Sunday Razzak got the call. Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu has asked Razzak to join in the national team by making phone call. Razzak is surprised to the sudden call but ready to join in the team. He said, I am really very happy for the sudden call. I can’t imagine that the call would come in such a way. Everybody was asking whether I am in the test squad sometimes earlier. I didn’t answer. Suddenly Nannu bhai (BCB Chief Selector) phoned me to join the test team in Chittagong. Razzak is optimistic about his fitness at the age of 35. He also said, there is nothing to say about injury. I am playing four-day matches for the last several days and also fully ready to play test match. He played his debut match in 2006 against Australia in Chittagong. But he was not regular in the test matches. He just played 12 matches in the eight years till 2014. He took 23 wickets with an average of 67.39. His best bowling figure was 3 wickets for 93 runs. Razzak played his last test match against Sri Lanka from February 4 to 8 in 2014 in Chittagong. And his comeback is going to be happened in the same venue against the same opponent Sri Lanka. The first test of the two match series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will commence on from January 31 in Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. AH
