Metro rail services will be closed for two during Eid-ul-Fitr. As a result, the metro rail movement will be closed for two consecutive days on the occasion of Eid. The day after Eid al-Fitr is Friday. That day is the weekly holiday of Metro rail.  Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan, deputy manager of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), confirmed the matter on Wednesday morning (April 10). He said, according to the previous announcement, the metro rail will be closed on the Eid day. Metro services were also suspended on Eid last year. Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan said in the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, an average of 2,40,000 passengers traveled daily on the metro rail. Before Ramadan, the number was 295,000. The number of passengers has increased after the metro rail increased by one hour from 16 Ramadan. In the last five days, an average of 2 lakh 90 thousand passengers have traveled.  

The construction work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Rail Bridge, one of the mega projects of the country, on the Jamuna river has been completed 80 percent. 3.7 kilometers of the 4.8 kilometers long Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Rail Bridge is now visible. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the mega project once it is completed by December this year. There will be a revolutionary change in the communication and transport system of the country with North Bengal. In addition to increasing internal rail connectivity, Bangladesh will be able to connect with the Trans-Asian Railway. Tanvirul Islam, chief engineer of Chief Engineer, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge Construction Project (BSMRBCP), said It will be possible to install the entire span by next May.   At present, 38 trains can run through the Bangabandhu Bridge, 68 trains will be able to run daily after the opening of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge. At the same time, a broad gauge railway project is being constructed between Chilahati in Nilphamari and Chilahati border to establish rail connectivity with India as an international route. At the same time, the economy of the northern part of the country will be accelerated. The construction work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Rail Bridge is progressing rapidly over the Jamuna. Trains can run at a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour on this dual gauge bridge.  Total 49 pillars out of 50 pillars of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Rail Bridge has been completed and only one pillar is yet to be installed.   

Dhaka Metro rail authority has decided to run the metro rail even after 9 pm. The decision will be effective from Wednesday, 16th Ramadan. The decision will remain in force until the day before Eid-ul-Fitr. Metro rail will remain closed on the Eid day. Managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL),  M. A. N. Siddique, disclosed the information at a press briefing on Tuesday (March 26). He said that the last train will leave Uttara North Station at 9:00 pm from Wednesday. The last train will leave Motijheel station at 9:40 pm. He added the metro rail movement time will be extended by one hour from tomorrow (March 26) till the day before Eid-ul-Fitr. Another 10 trains will run in the extra time. 

Dhaka Metro rail authority said metro rail will run for an additional hour from 16 Ramadan considering the passengers demand ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. With the increased operations, the last train from Motijheel will depart at 9:40pm and from Uttara at 9:20pm. However, DMTCL, has decided to stop operations of metro rail on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) managing director MAN Siddique said to the reporters that they have a target to carry about 500,000 passengers a day. Metro rail will increase it's operations, metro rail will run 194 times on both sides during this time.  

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCA) has announced the new timetable for the upcoming Ramadan. MAN Siddique, managing director of the metro rail service, said at a press conference on Sunday (March 10) afternoon that there will be no change in the metro rail operation for the first 15 days of Ramadan.  However, during the last 15 days of Ramadan, the service time will increase by one hour in both directions. The last train from Motijheel will leave at 9:40 pm and the last train from Uttara will leave at 9:20 pm. MAN Siddique said 10 more trains will run from 16th Ramadan. At that time, the metro rail will run 194 times a day.  He also said that 250 ml bottles can be carried before and after the time of Iftar. In this case, the water bottle must be thrown in the bin. The iftar schedule will be displayed on LED screens inside and outside the train. At present, the last metro train from Uttara to Motijheel leaves at 8:00 pm and the last train from Motijheel to Uttara leaves at 8:40 pm.

The metro rail movement becomes normal around 3.50 p.m. Metro rail services in Dhaka were temporarily suspended for over an hour.  Metro rail services in Dhaka were temporarily suspended due to a technical fault which disrupted the Uttara to Motijheel route, causing inconvenience to numerous commuters. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Director at Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) confirmed this information. Earlier, Obaidul Quader, Road Transport and Bridges Minister, announced the decision to reporters that the government is making arrangements to cut the interval between arrivals of Dhaka Metro Rail trains at every station by 2 minutes to 8 minutes.  

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made this announcemen that steps are underway to reduce the movement frequency of metro rail.  "No country in the world has more than five coaches for the metro rail. Six are already working in Bangladesh. It has been managed. Metro rail was like a dream a few years ago" he added. Obaidul Quader, in response to a question said that coach numbers could not be increased due to some technical reasons, but proper steps were taken to run a train every eight minutes, while the current frequency is 10 minutes. 

After being stopped for 1 hour and 40 minutes due to a technical fault, the metro rail service has resumed. However, the stranded train arrived at Kawran Bazar. Metrorail service resumed at 4:20 pm on Sunday (February 4). Earlier, metro rail services stopped from 2.40 pm. Thousands of passengers suffered. Panic spread among many. According to some sources, before arriving at Pallabi station at 2:37 pm, the lights and AC inside the train turned off suddenly. As a result, the metro rail movement stopped. “Metro rail services were shut down at around 2:45pm because of a signal system issue,” Nazmul Islam Bhuiya, the public relations officer of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) confirmed the matter.

The police are looking for a person who threw a dish cable on metro rail electric wires, which caused services to be suspended for around 15 minutes. The services of trains resumed around 15 minutes later at about 12:28pm on Tuesday (Jan 23), MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said a cable had been hurled on metro rail electric wires from a building located somewhere between Farmgate and Shahbag, adding that the police were searching for the individual responsible.

Two more metro rail stations -- Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani -- are now open for commuters today. The stations' doors were opened for passengers from 8am on Wednesday (December 13).  With this, the train now stops at Uttara North, Uttara Centre, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur-10, Mirpur-11, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani,  Farmgate, Dhaka University, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel stations.  "Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani stations of the metro rail are ready for operation and now open for the city commuters," Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) MAN Siddique told media while opening the stations. He said the duration of metro services on the Agargaon-Motijheel section will remain the same. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Agargaon-Motijheel section of the metro rail service on November 4, after launching the Uttara-Agargaon section on December 28 last year. Three of the seven stations on Agargaon-Motijheel route-- Farmgate, Bangladesh Secretariat (Press Club) and Motijheel-- were opened on November 4.  After opening of Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani stations, commuters will be able to use a total of five stations on Agargaon-Motijheel section.   Source: BSS
