Police will take strict and legal action against the people who would organize anti Modi meeting and procession centering the upcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi to Bangladesh. Special Branch (SB) chief and acting DMP commissioner Md. Monirul Islam said this. He said this while briefing the newsmen about the upcoming Bangladesh visit of different state and government chiefs on the occasion of birth centenary of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of independence. Monirul Islam said, those who are holding meeting, processions should be conscious about the real fact. Otherwise legal action will be taken against them. He urged the political parties for not declaring political programs during the programs of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and golden jubilee of independence. He said, I request them for not announcing political programs as VVIP guests would come. Monirul Islam said, there might be some problems for people’s movement as the programs would run from March 17 to 26. I request the people to start to attend their offices or examinations before the scheduled time. People should sacrifice considering the honor of the state. AH     

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has prohibited any kind of Tajia procession on Ashura this year to prevent the spread of coronavirus. DMP confirmed the matter in a press release signed by its Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam on Wednesday. Other religious ceremonies can be held indoors in compliance with all health rules and maintaining social distancing. DMP also banned the use of sharp weapons and firecrackers during this religious ceremony. Ashura is observed on the 10th of Muharram in the Hijri year commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh).  This year, Ashura will be observed in the country on August 30.   Source: UNB Read In Bangla Version AH

Police have charged batons on left-democratic alliance’s ‘Black flag’ procession on way to the Prime Minister’s Office. Chase and counter chases were took place. Leaders and activists said that 20-25 people were hurt in the incident. The incident took place at Mathsha Bhaban area in the capital on Monday afternoon. The left-democratic alliance organized the procession to observe 30th December as ‘Black Day’ terming the eleventh national parliament election as an election of ‘vote robbery’. Left-democratic alliance coordinator Abdullah Al Kafi Ratan said, 25-26 leaders and activists including alliance leader and general secretary of Biplabi Workers Party Saiful Haque and chief coordinator of Gonosanghati Andolon Zonaed Saki were injured in the police attack. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Protesting the attack the left-democratic alliance has called a demonstration gathering in front of National Press Club on Tuesday. In this regard Ramna zone DC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Sajjadur Rahman said, we requested them not to break the barricade. Their leaders and activists did not follow the request. They attacked police with the sticks and bamboos attached to the placards. Five police members were injured and of them two were hurt critically. We have showed the sense of patience and later we disperse them. Officer in Charge of Ramna police station Monirul Islam said, we have taken several people into police custody. We will take action after watching the video footage. AH        

Students are holding processions on main roads in the capital demanding justice for attack on students, resignation of Shipping Minister and safety on roads. Students from different universities take position on roads instead of the school children. They began to seize different intersections in Dhaka from Sunday morning. Allegation came in as police fired tear gas shells to disperse students at Jigatola. Jigatola: Students from Dhaka University and BUET took their position at Shahbag intersection at 11 am. Later they began to move towards Science Lab-Jigatola area with procession. Police set up barricade in the area to stop them. Tension spread there as the students attempted to move away the barricade. Police dispersed the procession by firing tear shells in front of Jigatola bus stand. A group of young people attacked the procession when it was on the way towards Farmgate. The young men were wearing helmets. The attackers vandalized the glasses of the university building. Rampura: Students of different private universities went on roads at Rampura area. They seized the roads in the area chanting slogans. The clash started when a group of people try to attack the students. At one stage the attackers retreated. Mirpur: Mirpur was quite calm on Sunday though the area was quite fierce in the past several days. Police took position in different important places in the area. Police moved the students away when they tried to gather. Airport Road: Students took their position near Banani police box area and were checking documents of the vehicles. They were checking driving licenses also. As a result vehicle movement turned limited in the area. Banani: Several hundred students from different universities including South East University took their position on roads at around 12:30 pm. They began to chant slogans for safe roads. Uttara: Demonstration of students is continuing at Uttara. Students began to gather at House Building area from the morning and were holding demonstration there. Vehicle movement was less in the area. The movement of students is continuing for the eight consecutive days which started from July 29. Vehicle movement is halted during the ongoing movement throughout the country. General people are in great sufferings following the incidents. AH            

Dhaka metropolitan south unit of BNP brought out a procession at Paltan on Monday as per center declared programs demanding party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s release from jail. But police chased the demonstration procession and dispersed it in front of Baitul Mokarram mosque. Incidents of chase and counter chase occurred between police and the leaders and activists of BNP during the period. The incident took place at around 2pm. In primary information detainment of some activists was heard but nobody could confirm it. Bangla TV reporter Arman Kayes and his cameraman were also detained while performing professional duties, his colleagues alleged. Motijheel zone ADC of police Shibli Noman and other 6-7 police members were also injured by thrown stones of the BNP activists. They also vandalized a police vehicle. Vehicle movement was halted when the chase and counter chase took place. Panic also gripped the people. On Sunday the party declared fresh programs demanding unconditional release of Khaleda Zia from jail. Under the declared program Dhaka metropolitan south BNP organized the demonstration. AH
