President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Principal Motiur Rahman, a former member of Awami League Central Working Committee, former president of Mymensingh district Awami League, former religious affairs minister and valiant freedom fighter on Monday. President said In a condolence message, "the nation will forever remember Motiur Rahman's contributions to the Liberation War and education sector." Prime Minister said in a message that, Motiur Rahman was a dedicated leader of Bangladesh Awami League.  “Motiur Rahman performed his organisational duties, remaining steadfast to the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the politics of the Awami League — defying uncountable inducement and repeated imprisonment,” she said.  Earlier at 11:00pm on Sunday, Motiur Rahman breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Nexus Hospital in Mymensingh.  A valiant freedom fighter and recipient of the Ekushey Padak award for his outstanding contribution in the Liberation War. Motiur was elected a member of parliament from Mymensingh-4 in 1986, 1996, and 2008. In 2014, he was appointed as the minister of religious affairs. He also held the positions of president and general secretary of Mymensingh District Awami League for an extended period.

The special tribunal has ordered death sentence for housemaids Swapna and Reshma in connection with former Eden Mohila College principal Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin murder case. Judge of the Dhaka speedy trial tribunal-1 Abu Jafar Md. Kamruzzaman delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon. Earlier, the two housemaids were produced before the court. On September 30, after completion of arguments presentation by the lawyers of state and accused, the court fixed the date for delivering verdict on October 4. Mentionable, on February 10, 2019 police recovered the dead body of Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin from her home at Elephant Road in the capital. In this connection Ismat Kadir Gama, husband of Mahfuza Chowdhury filed a case. Police then arrested housemaids Rita Akter alias Swapna and Ruma alias Reshma and also housemaid providing agent Runu Begum. Swapna and Reshma later delivered confessional statement. Mahfuza Chowdhury served the post of principal in Eden College from 2009 to 2012. AH

Principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa Siraj Ud Dowla instructed to kill the madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi from jail. 13 people were involved in the killing. Four people set fire on Nusrat’s body. Of them one was Shahadat Hossain Shamim. There was another girl (PBI is keeping secret about the name). The miscreants escaped through the main gate of the madrasa after setting fire on Nusrat. The information was delivered at a press conference organized by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) at its headquarters at Dhanmondi in the capital on Saturday. DIG of PBI Bonoj Kumar Majumder briefed there. PBI Chief Bonoj Kumar Majumder said, the investigation agency PBI has found association of 13 people including two girls in connection with the killing. Of them seven people are arrested. It was said in the press conference, Nur Uddin, Shamim and associates submitted memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on April 4 demanding release of principal Siraj. Later on that day they met Siraj in the jail. On the day Siraj instructed to kill Nusrat by setting fire. On the next day (April 5) five to seven people drew plan to kill Nusrat at west hostel of the madrasa. He said, Nur Uddin in his statement said that Nusrat was killed in arson attack as she demeaned the alem society by sending the principal in jail. Besides, Nusrat in several stages rejected Shahadat’s proposal of making affair- was another reason. On April 6 when Nusrat reached at the alim examination center at Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa some masked miscreants took her to the roof of the madrasa, poured kerosene on her body and set her ablaze. Later Nusrat was taken to a local hospital under critical condition and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. At last on April 10 Nusrat succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, family members of the student alleged that on March 27 principal of the madrasa Siraj Ud Dowla attempted to dishonor Nusrat by calling her at his office room. The incident resulted the arson attack on Nusrat. AH

The madrasa education directorate has suspended the Monthly Payment Order (MPO) of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa principal and one of its teachers who were arrested in connection with cases of sexually assaulting and killing Nusrat Jahan Rafi. The information came through an order signed by Director General of madrasa education directorate Safiuddin Ahmed on Thursday. The order was published on website of the directorate. It was said in the order, request is made to take necessary actions for suspending MPO of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa principal Maulana Siraj Ud Doula and its English department lecturer Afsar Uddin who were arrested in connection with dishonoring madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi (case number-24, Date-27/03/2019) and along with the case of killing her by burnt (case number-10, Date-08/04/2019). Mentionable, Nusrat Jahan Rafi went to Sonagazi Islamia Senior Madrasa on April 6 to take part in the Alim examination. At that time the miscreants using tricks took her to the madrasa roof, poured kerosene on her body and set fire on her. After fighting five days for her life Nusrat succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday (April 10) at Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Earlier, on March 27 the madrasa principal called Nusrat at his office room and dishonored her. After the incident Nusrat's mother Shirin Akter filed a case with Sonagazi model police station. Police arrested principal Siraj Ud Doula on that day. People loyal to the principal were forcing Nusrat to withdraw the case. At one stage the miscreants on April 6 took Nusrat to the madrasa roof and set fire on her body. AH
