Nine more members of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) were arrested from Dhupanichara Para area of 16 East Bengal region in Bandarban. Several weapons were also recovered from KNF members. They were arrested on Tuesday (April 16) in a raid led by Major Rajib of Sung Sang Para Army Camp. Nine LGs, nineteen LG cartridges, two mobile phones and two ID cards were recovered from their possession. The area was cordoned off after receiving a tip-off about the location of the KNF terrorists. Notably, the KNF members carried out terrorist attacks on the bank, looted arms and money, and kidnapped the bank manager, disobeying  'Peace Establishment Committee'.

Twelve more members of Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) and and military personnel have taken shelter in Bangladesh after fleeing through Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban. They took shelter in Bangladesh through Ashartali, and Jamchhari borders under Sadar union, and Rezu border under Ghumdhum union on Tuesday morning (April 16). It is learned that they have taken shelter in Bangladesh amid clashes with separatists in the border region. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has disarmed them and kept them under their supervision. BGB Public Relations Officer, Shariful Islam confirmed the matter. He said BGP members and and military personnel have been kept under the supervision of BGB. Earlier on March 12, 177 BGP members fled to Bangladesh. They were taken into custody by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).  

At least 29 members of  Border Guard Police (BGP) from Myanmar have taken shelter in Bangladesh Amid the conflict between the Myanmar military and the armed rebel group in Rakhine state of Myanmar. The  BGP members have taken refuge in Bangladesh through the border area of Bandarban's Jamchari union under Naikhongchhari BGB's Battalion 11. Public relations officer (PRO) of Border Guard Bangladesh, Shariful Islam, confirmed the matter to the reporters. Earlier, at least 330 members of Myanmar armed forces including BGP, army personnel and immigration officials had taken shelter in Bangladesh in February.  However, they were sent back on February 15 to Border Guard Police of Myanmar.  

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to add some new members to the cabinet. For this, seven more people have been invited to Bangabhaban to take oath. The oath-taking ceremony will be held in at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1. This information has been found from the sources of the Cabinet Division. The list new faces those who will be included in the cabinet are- Shahiduzzaman Sarker MP from Naogaon-2 constituency, Md. Abdul Wadud from Rajshahi-5, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury from Chittagong-14, Begum Rokeya Sultana from reserved seats for women, Begum Shamsun Nahar from reserved seats,  Begum Waseqa Ayesha Khan from reserved seats, and Begum Nahid Izhar Khan from reserved seats, according to some sources. Earlier, The 12th parliamentary elections were held on January 7. Awami League formed the government for the fourth consecutive time after winning the election.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (Jan 12) paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War, a day after taking oath to form the government for a record fifth term and fourth in a row. Sheikh Hasina as the Prime Minister first paid glowing tributes to the martyrs by placing a wreath at the altar of the National Memorial at Savar, on the outskirts of the capital city Dhaka, around 11am. Flanked by the new cabinet colleagues, Sheikh Hasina, also placed another wreath at the altar of the National Memorial. After laying the wreaths, they stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs who made supreme sacrifice for the independence of Bangladesh. A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the three services gave a state salute, while bugle played the last post on the occasion. Later, Sheikh Hasina signed the visitors' book kept on the National Memorial premises.  

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her new cabinet colleagues today paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a day after taking oath to form the government for a record fifth term and fourth in a row. Sheikh Hasina first paid tributes to Bangabandhu as the Prime Minister by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi. Along with her new cabinet colleagues, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also placed another wreath at Bangabandhu's portrait. After placing the wreath, they stood there in solemn silence a while to show due respect to the Architect of independent Bangladesh. Later, the prime minister and her new cabinet colleagues started their journey for National Memorial at Savar to pay tributes to the Liberation War martyrs. Sheikh Hasina took oath as the prime minister for the fifth time, four days after the Awami League secured a landslide victory in the 12th parliamentary election held on January 7, 2024, bagging 222 parliamentary seats out of 298.  

Kolai-Palas police in Kohistan on Tuesday apprehended three members of the jirga who had decided to take the drastic step of ending the life of a young girl after the circulation of a video on social media. Deputy Superintendent of Police Masood Khan announced the arrest of three suspects, shedding light on an ongoing effort to apprehend others who had advised the girl’s family to carry out this heinous act in response to the viral video. The arrested men, including two paternal uncles of the deceased girl, are set to face legal proceedings as they will be presented before the local magistrate for physical remand. Identified as Abdul Qayyum and Mohammad Naseer, these suspects played a pivotal role in the shocking decision made by the jirga, according to police. FIA trying to establish identity of persons who uploaded video that led to killing DSP Khan emphasised that the police force was actively conducting raids, particularly in the mountainous Barsharyal area of Kolai-Palas (Kohistan), to locate and apprehend all individuals involved in either orchestrating the murder or contributing to the jirga’s decision-making process. The father of the victim, who was previously taken into custody, has now been handed over to the police by the Kolai-Palas magistrate on a seven-day remand. DSP Khan said police also produced one of the young men, who could be seen with the slain girl in the video, before the magistrate of the area and recorded his statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. An official said the young man claimed he had no idea who uploaded the video in question, or for what purpose. A statement issued by the DIG Hazara Circle office claimed police were actively pursuing the case and a contingent of police was still present in the mountainous Sharyal village for more arrests. Amid the investigation, the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cybercrime wing has actively stepped in to verify the authenticity, origin, owner and operator of the Facebook account responsible for uploading the video. FIA Cybercrime Deputy Director Mohammad Asif said a thorough inquiry would be conducted to uncover the motive behind uploading the video. He said that the video that was made up of photos uploaded on a single account.

At least 5 people injured at Rupganj in Narayanganj in the explosion caused by gas line leakage. The incident occured in Aukabo Bazar on Friday night. The injured are Hasoon Banu (55), her husband Ali Ahmed (65), son Omar Farooq (18), daughter Sahara Begum (24) and brother Sonuddin (45). Hashun Banu's nephew said in the hospital. Noore Alam said that they live on the ground floor of the house in Rupganj. Hasoon Banu is a housewife, her husband and brother have a dry shop in Gauchia Bazar.  Apart from this, daughter Sahara is disabled and son Omar Farooq works in local Anupam Garments.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid glowing tributes to the martyred family members of Bangabandhu including Shaheed Sheikh Russell. PM along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana paid homage to them by placing wreath at Banani graveyards on Sheikh Russell Day coinciding with the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's youngest son's 60th birthday.   Earlier, Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana went to the Banani graveyards in the morning. They also offered fateha and joined a special munajat there, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, Bangamata and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage. Later, the two daughters of Bangabandhu spread flower petals on the graves of the martyrs. The 60th birthday of Sheikh Russell, a student of class four at University Laboratory School, is being observed today as the Sheikh Russell Day. Russell, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18 in 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban on Dhanmondi road number 32 in the capital. He was brutally killed along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on August 15, 1975. The Cabinet Division in 2021 declared October 18, the birthday of Sheikh Russell, as 'Sheikh Russell Day' under the category "Ka".

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Friday that China is ready to work with Group of 77 (G77) members to open a new chapter in South-South cooperation in quest for greater development through stronger solidarity. Li Xi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while attending the Summit of the Group of 77 and China in Havana of Cuba, as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping. He expressed China's willingness to work with G77 members to build a Global South community with a shared future, and usher in a new era of common development. Li said the world is undergoing changes on a scale unseen in a century, and developing countries are becoming stronger. South-South cooperation is playing an increasingly important role in driving the collective rise of developing countries and in sustaining the continued global economic growth, he said. Noting that unilateralism and hegemonism are becoming rampant, Li said that some countries are resorting to unilateral sanctions, decoupling, and disruption of industrial and supply chains, which will seriously undermine the legitimate development rights and interests of developing countries and the space for development. He also stressed that developing countries widely expect to enhance solidarity and cooperation, and make efforts to make global governance more just and equitable. He put forward a three-point proposal in respect of cooperation between the G77 and China, calling on G77 members to stay true to the original aspiration of the G77 for independence and greater collective strength through unity. Besides, he encouraged the advocating of equity, justice and inclusiveness, and appealed for pursuing development, revitalization and win-win cooperation. G77 members and China need to foster new drivers for their own development, focusing on cooperation in areas of food security, poverty alleviation, industrialization, green development, digital technology and artificial intelligence, Li said, adding that efforts should be made to ensure all countries equally benefit from digital dividends, and no developing country will be left behind or left out in the development of new technologies and industries. Noting China is the largest developing country in the world, he said that no matter what stage of development it reaches, China will always be part of the developing world and a member of the Global South. South-South cooperation is always a high priority in China's cooperation with other countries, he added. Li said China will continue to maintain close communication and coordination with G77 members in order to optimize allocation of development resources, deepen South-South cooperation, ensure efficient use of public goods of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Global Development Initiative and other initiatives, close the development divide, and resolve problems in development. In mid-October, China will host the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing. Li expressed the country's willingness to promote the BRI cooperation with G77 members for greater development. He noted that as long as these countries adapt to the changing times, strengthen solidarity, friendship and cooperation, and lend each other support in pursuing a path to modernization suited to the respective national conditions and characteristics, they will surely be able to better safeguard the common interests of developing countries, have a greater say in global governance, and achieve common development and shared prosperity.
