President, PM mourn death of Prof Abdul Quddus
President MD Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Natore district Awami League (AL) President, Member of Parliament from Natore-4 (Gurudaspur-Baraigram) constituency and valiant freedom fighter Professor Abdul Quddus on Wednesday, August 30. In a message, President said, the Head of State prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.  Prime Minister also expressed her condolence in a message, said, "Throughout his life, he (Quddus) has performed his organisational responsibilities by remaining steadfast to the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the politics of Awami League."  Sheikh Hasina said, "Abdul Quddus gained place in the hearts of the common people of his constituency as well as the entire Natore district." He breathed the last today, at a private hospital of the Capital Dhaka. He was 77. Kuddus, was a freedom fighter, president of Natore district unit of Awami League, was elected MP of Natore-4 constituency for five times.

President, PM mourn death of Principal Motiur Rahman
President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Principal Motiur Rahman, a former member of Awami League Central Working Committee, former president of Mymensingh district Awami League, former religious affairs minister and valiant freedom fighter on Monday. President said In a condolence message, "the nation will forever remember Motiur Rahman's contributions to the Liberation War and education sector." Prime Minister said in a message that, Motiur Rahman was a dedicated leader of Bangladesh Awami League.  “Motiur Rahman performed his organisational duties, remaining steadfast to the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the politics of the Awami League — defying uncountable inducement and repeated imprisonment,” she said.  Earlier at 11:00pm on Sunday, Motiur Rahman breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Nexus Hospital in Mymensingh.  A valiant freedom fighter and recipient of the Ekushey Padak award for his outstanding contribution in the Liberation War. Motiur was elected a member of parliament from Mymensingh-4 in 1986, 1996, and 2008. In 2014, he was appointed as the minister of religious affairs. He also held the positions of president and general secretary of Mymensingh District Awami League for an extended period.

'No alternative to build a planned family'
The World Population Day-2023 is being observed across the country Tuesday, July 11. President Md Shahabuddin issued a message for the day on Monday and Welcome the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to observe World Population Day in Bangladesh like other countries of the world. The theme of the day this year is "Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world's infinite possibilities". In his message, President Md Shahabuddin said, "The country's constitution ensures equal rights for male and female. Now half of the population of the country is woman, adding that women need to be involved in a large number in the country's development activities." "We all need to work together to ensure gender equality. We will have to emphasis on increasing literacy rate and employment for poverty alleviation preventing the population growth rate," he added. "There is no alternative to build a planned family considering the size of the country, its location, population, natural resources, environment and socio-economic situation," he said. He urged to ensure that, friendly environment and optimal utilization of existing resources with keeping the population at desired level. A planned and efficient population is important for sustainable development.

President Md Shahabuddin arrived in Turkiye
President Md Shahabuddin has arrived in Ankara, the capital city of Turkiye for a six-day official visit to attend the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.  A Biman Bangladesh Airlines VVIP flight (Flight No. BG-207) carrying President Shahabuddin landed in Ankara at 4:30 am yesterday, june 02. On Thursday night, June 01, the aircraft departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka at 11:00 pm.  Upon their arrival at Ankara Airport, President Md Shahabuddin was welcomed by Bangladesh ambassador to Turkey M Amanul Haq and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including, Ambassador Oya Tunga Cagli, Head of Department G"nenO Agaciklioglu, DG for Protocol Mert Can Yazici, Third Secretary and DG for South Asia. Point to be noted that, President Sahabuddin will participate in the swearing-in ceremony at the "Presidential Complex" in Ankara on June 03 at 5:00 pm (local time).  During his visit, the President will also attend an official banquet hosted by President Erdogan at the Presidential Palace. President Sahabuddin will participate in several scheduled events, including interactions with eminent personalities in Ankara. He will be staying at the Sheraton Ankara Hotel during his visit to Turkiye. On the evening of June 06, President Sahabuddin is scheduled to return to the country.

Md Shahabuddin sworn in as 22nd President of Bangladesh. On Monday, April 24, Md Shahabuddin took oath as the 22nd President of Bangladesh. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the historical Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban at around 11 am in the morning. National Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cabinet members and hundreds of distinguished guests were present on the event. Md Shahbuddin succeeds Md Abdul Hamid, whose second consecutive term ended yesterday. Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain conducted the program.

Md Shahabuddin to take oath as president on Monday
On Monday, April 24, Md Shahabuddin will take oath as the 22nd President of Bangladesh. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Bangabhaban's historic Durbar Hall at around 11 am in the morning.  National Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will administer the oath function.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cabinet members and hundreds of distinguished guests will attend the event.  The program will be conducted by Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain. Then the new president Md Shahabuddin will sign the oath documents. Md Shahabuddin's wife Dr Rebecca Sultana and son Arshad Adnan Rony and other family members will also attend the swearing-in ceremony. Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, Members of Parliament, Chief Election Commissioner, Supreme Court Judges, political leaders, heads of the three armed forces, diplomats, senior journalists, civil and military officials will be present on the occasion. The 73-year-old Md Shahabuddin was elected as the 22nd President of Bangladesh on 13 February 2023.  Md Shahabuddin was born on 10 December 1949 in Pabna. Father Sharfuddin Ansari and mother Khairunnessa. During his student life, Mr. Shahabuddin served as an active member and president of Pabna District Chhatra League. He actively participated in the Great Liberation War of 1971 and then joined the BCS (Judicial) cadre in 1982.  After 25 years of service as a Judge, he retired as a District and Sessions Judge in 2006. From 2011-2016, Md Shahabuddin served as Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission.

Everything is Allah’s will: Md Shahabuddin
"Everything is Allah’s will," Md Shahabuddin Chuppu, who is set to be the next President of Bangladesh, remarks today. “There is no reaction now.  This is Almighty Allah’s will,” Md Shahabuddin told reporters after submitting his nomination paper at the Election Commission. Md Shahabuddin, a retired district and session judge, had served as a commissioner at the Anti-Corruption Commission. An Awami League team, led by the party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader, went to the Election Commission to submit the nomination paper of its presidential candidate. The delegation members included AL Presidium members Mohammad Faruk Khan, Jahangir Kabir, and Abdur Rahman, AL Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud.

World Bank MD to visit Bangladesh Saturday
The World Bank’s Managing Director (MD) of Operations Axel van Trotsenburg is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka saturday, january 21, on his first official visit to Bangladesh. During his three-day visit, van Trotsenburg will join a public event in the city on January 22, 2023, to mark 50 years of the partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank Group and celebrate the country's remarkable development achievements, said a press release. "Bangladesh has shown the world what can be done to dramatically reduce poverty through successful innovations in human development, women's empowerment, and climate adaptation," said Axel van Trotsenburg.  "The World Bank is proud of its 50-year partnership with Bangladesh and being part of the country's remarkable development journey. I look forward to my visit and to seeing these achievements firsthand," he added. Van Trotsenburg will meet with the Prime Minister, the Finance Minister, and other senior government officials, civil society representatives, and development partners, and visit World Bank-supported projects.  He will be accompanied by Martin Raiser, World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region.

G20 under India can make progress in debt relief, crypto: IMF Deputy MD
G-20, under India's presidency, can make concrete progress on three critical areas: debt relief, regulations of crypto currency and climate finance, International Monetary Fund's First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath said. Gopinath, who is in India to participate in deliberations held as part of G-20, explained the three areas in a video posted on Twitter. “We have a large number of low-income countries that are in debt distress. While we have the G-20 common framework to help with debt resolution, we absolutely need to improve the strength of the mechanism and to get much more timely resolution,” she said. Throwing light on the recent crypto meltdown, she said it was clear that internationally agreed standards of regulations had become necessary. “Progress on that front being able to accomplish that in 2023 would be a concrete outcome,” she said. On climate finance, Gopinath said, “To have developing countries adapt to climate change, to contribute to climate mitigation, they will need much higher financing. Shahabuddin Medical MD arrested
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested managing director of Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital Foysal Al Islam (34) in connection with cheating over coronavirus sample tests. RAB legal and media wing director Lt. Colonel Ashik Billah confirmed the matter. Foysal is the son of hospital chairman Md. Shahabuddin. RAB arrested him from a hotel in the capital on Monday night. After being informed about different allegation RAB conducted the drive on Sunday and filed cases against three persons including Foysal. There were allegations of preparing fake coronavirus test reports, antibody test without authorization and others against Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital. RAB executive magistrate Sarwar Alam conducted the drive and health directorate officials were present at that moment. AH
