China: Two killed, many injured in restaurant explosion
A suspected gas leak explosion at a building in northern China has killed at least two people and injured 26 more, according to officials. An explosion ripped through a restaurant in China's Hebei province, killing two people and injuring 26 more, state media reported Wednesday. The explosion occurred around 8 a.m. (0000 GMT) Wednesday in Sanhe, a city about 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the capital Beijing, state broadcaster CCTV News reported. The injured were taken to the hospital, CCTV said. The explosion occurred at a fried chicken restaurant and is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak, the broadcaster reported. Devastating explosion Earlier, the local Langfang fire department said it had sent 36 vehicles and 154 people to the scene, adding that the fire was under control and rescue efforts were underway. Videos posted on social media platform Weibo showed a large orange fireball over the site. It was followed by thick plumes of gray smoke. The video clips showed shattered building facades, dozens of mangled cars, and glass scattered on surrounding streets. Some objects were burning. Deadly accidents in China Explosions and other deadly accidents are a common occurrence in China due to lax safety standards and a lack of enforcement. Last month, a fire at an apartment building in the eastern city of Nanjing killed at least 15 people and injured 44. In January, dozens died after a fire broke out at a shop in the central city of Xinyu, with the state news agency Xinhua reporting that the blaze was caused by the "illegal" use of fire by workers in the shop's basement. That same month, more than a dozen people were killed when a dormitory at a school in central China went up in flames.

Indonesia: Volcano eruption kills 11 hikers, others injured
An eruption at Mount Marapi killed 11, and three others were rescued. With 12 people still missing, the search team suspended their efforts on Monday due to another small eruption. Search teams working through the night rescued three people on Monday following a volcanic eruption that killed 11 hikers in western Indonesia. Twelve people are still missing.  Mount Marapi on the island of Sumatra erupted on Sunday, spewing an ash tower 3,000 meters high, which rained volcanic debris onto nearby villages. The peak is 2,891 meters (9,484 feet) high.  Authorities raised the alert to the second-highest level and prohibited residents from going within 3 kilometers of the crater. Local disaster agency official Ade Setiawan said in a statement that residents in local villages were "given masks and reminded to stay inside their houses." Search suspended Video footage showed a huge cloud of volcanic ash spread widely across the sky while cars and roads were covered in ash. Jodi Haryawan, spokesperson for the search and rescue team, said the search had to be suspended because of a small eruption on Monday. "It's too dangerous if we continue searching now," he said. Search teams found the 11 dead near the crater on Monday morning. "There are 26 people who have not been evacuated, we have found 14 of them, three were found alive and 11 were found dead," Abdul Malik, head of Padang Search and Rescue Agency told reporters on Monday. Malik said the three survivors were found near the crater, and "their condition was weak, and some had burns." Rescue workers had to take turns carrying down the dead, due to the difficult terrain. He added that 49 people had climbed down from the mountain, some of which had to be taken to the hospital. "Some suffered from burns because it was very hot, and they have been taken to the hospital. Those who are injured were the ones who got closer to the crater," Rudy Rinaldi, head of the West Sumatra Disaster Mitigation Agency told AFP news agency.  Indonesia lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity. It has nearly 130 active volcanoes.

Pakistan: Two persons killed, 3 soldiers among 10 injured in suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bannu
Two persons were killed and 10 others, including three Pakistan army soldiers, were injured in a suicide attack on a convoy of security forces in the Baka Khel area of Bannu district in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan-based Dawn reported citing the military's media affairs wing. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that a "motorcycle-borne suicide bomber" detonated himself at a security forces convoy on Sunday. According to ISPR, the bomber was affiliated with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group and "later identified as an Afghan national". According to ISPR, two civilians were killed while seven civilians and three soldiers were wounded in the attack. The ISPR said that a sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, according to Dawn report. The ISPR said that eight terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Sararogha area of Pakistan's South Waziristan, Dawn reported. Two soldiers were killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on a security forces convoy in the Razmak area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's North Waziristan district. Notably, Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terrorist attacks in recent months, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan after the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the Pakistan government in 2022. In a report released in October, the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said that 386 security personnel lost their lives in the first nine months of 2023, reaching an eight-year high, Geo News reported. In the third quarter of 2023, some 445 people were killed and 440 others were injured from 190 terror attacks and counter-terror operations, Geo News reported. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remained the prime centres for violence, reporting nearly 94 per cent of all fatalities and 89 per cent of attacks, including incidents of terrorism and security forces operations recorded during this time.
