Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said that police force are trying to ensure smooth and secured journey during  Eid-ul-Fitr. He said this during a courtesy call on the leaders of Crime Reporters Association Of Bangladesh (CRAB) at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday (March 19). The IGP said all measures have been taken so that common people can reach their destinations during Eid. Besides, we have arranged security measures during Iftar, taraweeh and Sehri in such a way that the security of the common people is not hampered. Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said police officers across the country have been instructed to ensure the safety and services of the common people. Besides, zero tolerance policy against militancy, terrorism, extortion and drugs will continue.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today (Jan 5) said he thought that citizens will participate in voting in groups and pro-hartal supporters will be nowhere to be found on January 7. The people of this country are election-oriented and looking forward to casting their votes, he told reporters at a briefing on election security at Willes Little Flower School and College in the city. “We received information that they were planning to detonate improvised bombs to incite panic. We have taken measures to foil their plans,” he said on Friday. "We have details of their [pro-hartal parties'] plans. They won't get a chance to do that," he said, adding police are aware and working to counter rumours on social media too. When asked about polling centres at a high risk of facing violence, the IGP assured that all polling centres have adequate security measures in place. The collaboration between local administration, returning officers, and law enforcement agencies has established a unified platform to work together and ensure security during the election. IGP said police in association with the country's people are ready to resist any attempt of carrying out sabotage and maintain environment of peaceful polls on January 7.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed is going to visit United States of America to participate heads of police conference of the United Nations. Highly placed sources at home ministry and police head quarters have confirmed that the Bangladesh police chief obtains US visa on Thursday. But Benazir Ahmed has been issued the visa under some conditions of which mentionable that IGP will not participate any other program except the scheduled program of United Nations. The conference is scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 1. A six member representative team including IGP Benazir Ahmed is due to participate the two-day conference. The delegation team is schedule to leave Dhaka on August 30. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will lead the six-member delegation team. The other members are- Joint Secretary of public safety division of the home ministry Abu Hena Mostafa Zaman, Personal Secretary of the Home Minister (Deputy Secretary) M. Asaduzzaman, Additional DIG Nashian Wazed and AIG Md. Masud Alam. In December last year US state department and treasury division imposed sanctions on seven officials including former DG of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and incumbent IGP Benazir Ahmed. AH   

A representative team of BNP held meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed. The meeting was held at the police headquarters on Wednesday afternoon. The BNP representative team was assured by the police chief. After holding the meeting for thirty minutes BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Abdus Salam who lead the team said to the newsmen, we held meeting with the police chief. He has given us some suggestions and assured us of cooperation. We have been assured. When asked about the type of suggestions given by the police chief, Salam said, in this corona pandemic situation he suggested about disciplined programs which has to be arranged maintaining health guidelines on the occasion of golden jubilee of independence. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Javed Patwary said, so far for the upcoming Dhaka City Corporation election an excellent and beautiful atmosphere is prevailing. There will be festive, beautiful and excellent atmosphere during voting. He said this after holding meeting on law and order situation with the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday. Javed Patwary said, the candidates are on electioneering. We hope that the upcoming few days will pass in a festive mood. All of us have taken plans accordingly. He said, intelligence agencies including Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are working to maintain a beautiful and excellent atmosphere. The IGP said, nothing has happened to be mentioned. Law enforcers are trying utmost to attain the confidence of voters and candidates. I think it could be maintained till the end. Whether there will be any additional measures or not- when asked about this the police chief said, no need to take additional measures. We are performing our given responsibility in the right way. The meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda where Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam, Director Generals of BGB, RAB, Ansar and VDP, DGFI, NSI, Divisional Commissioner, DMP Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and other senior government officials were present. The High Court has asked to issue red alert at all the police stations so that the killers of Rifat cannot leave the country. The court has asked Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take action in this regard on Thursday. Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar said before the court, one accused was arrested. Drives are going on to detain others. Each of the accused will be arrested and brought under judicial process. At that time to the representative of state the court said, ask IGP to take action so that the accused cannot cross the border or leave the country. Ask him to issue red alert on border. Earlier the High Court bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader expressed anger when reports of different newspapers in connection with the killing were placed before them. At that time the court said, in which way Rifat was hacked to death in an open place but nobody except his wife came to save him. People saw that standing even recorded the moment. It is a failure of our people. People were not like this. Where society has stood? Meanwhile, check posts were set up in different spots to detain the accused of Rifat murder case. In this regard SP of Barguna Maruf Hossain said that check posts were set up in different parts of Barguna. On Wednesday at arounf 10:30 am Nayan and his associates hacked Rifat on Barguna Governemnt College road. He was rushed to Barguna Sadar Hospital at first and later shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital but at around 4 pm Rifat died while undergoing treatment there. AH  

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari said that so far 70 dead bodies were recovered in connection with the incident of fire at Chawkbazar in the capital. The death toll may rise, he also informed. He said these to the newsmen while visiting the spot on Thursday morning. At that time fire service and high officials of police were along with him. Dr. Javed Patwari said, there were chemicals in the chemical warehouse. So the fire spread very fast. Later fire service workers brought the fire under control through their relentless efforts. He said there were some gas-run vehicles in front of the warehouse building. The fire caused burst of the vehicles. There were some gas cylinders in a vehicle might be for supply to the adjacent homes and hotels. Terrible explosion took part in the vehicle. As a result the casualties increased. IGP said, I personally think that there should not be any chemical warehouse in such populated area. It is the time to remove those. Earlier, at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday the fire broke out in a multistoried building near Shahi Mosque at Chawkbazar area in old Dhaka and spread into other nearby buildings. It was known that the fire first broke out in the building named Wahed Mansion. There were chemical warehouse and plastic materials producing shops. The fire spread into Wahid Manjil, Amania Hotel, Raj Hotel and other four residential buildings on the opposite side. Fire Service Deputy Director Debashis Bhattacharya said, the building where first fire broke out is at risk and it may collapse at any moment. Meanwhile, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon and Member of Parliament Hazi Selim reached on the spot after 2 am. Locals said, fire service vehicles rushed to Chawkbazar after the fire broke out. The vehicles could not reach to the spot due to narrow roads in the area. AH      

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary said, law and order preparation is excellent and better than ever. The environment that is prevailing, if that continues then we will be able to present a beautiful election to the nation. He said this after holding a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Thursday afternoon. IGP said, we have informed the CEC and the Commission about our plan regarding the election. We have shared our latest situation and own plan of police centering the national parliament election with the Election Commission. There is no control of Election Commission over police administration- claiming BNP and Oikyafront’s such allegation as unreal he said, not only police, total administration is under control of Election Commission. Police are taking action after getting specific allegation. Over BNP’s allegation of obstacle in campaign and arrest he said, police are taking action after getting specific complain. But there is nothing about the outspread allegation. We have taken action against many. Additional IGP Mokhlesur Rahman, Special Branch chief Shahidul Islam, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit chief Monirul Islam and Special Action Group Deputy Commissioner Pralay Kumar Joardar were present along with the IGP. The Election Commission (EC) has ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) to submit the investigation report to EC within three days over the incident of attack on Dr. Kamal Hossain’s motorcade at the national mausoleum. In this regard a letter signed by EC Joint Secretary Abul Kashem was sent to IGP on Monday. EC Joint Secretary Abul Kashem confirmed the matter to Rtv online. Earlier, BNP candidate from Dhaka-2 constituency Irfan Ibne Aman Omi complained to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) accompanied by his injured activists. He filed complain saying that he was under attack while going election campaign in his electoral area. The complain Irfan said that he is the Oikyafront nominated candidate for Dhaka-2 constituency. On Monday when he went for election campaign at Amin Bazar in Savar, then with an attempt to kill him OC of Savar police station and Awami League terrorists attacked them and vandalized vehicles. Many of his leaders-activists were injured in the attack even police arrested some people. He demanded release of the leaders-activists. He also sought better treatment for the activists and compensation for the vandalized vehicles. Irfan also mentioned in the written demands, earlier I have filed complain in this regard but did not get any remedy from the CEC. AH     

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary said, a new unit is going to be formed to prevent rumors on social media. The unit is nearly at the final stage. We will be able to see the face of this unit after getting finance ministry nod. We also have the adequate manpower. He said these while answering questions to the newsmen at the prize distribution ceremony of Bangladesh police cricket championship (IGP cup) final at APBN field at Uttara in the capital on Saturday.   IGP said, we are preparing ourselves, enhancing capability, sending workforce to abroad for training on tactics and observation. A coordination cell was already formed in the police head quarters to prevent rumors and cyber crimes. It was done to monitor the related cases all time. This cell will monitor the activities of all units. It will inform us so that nobody is able to deteriorate the law and order situation by spreading rumors. Javed Patwary said, some days ago rumors were spread in the garments sector that two-three people died and two were missing. As a result general people were involved in conflict by not understanding anything. For this reason we are alert so that nobody will be able to spread rumors in future. IGP said, cyber crime is a big challenge for law enforcement agencies throughout the world. We are preparing ourselves so that we can monitor cyber crime properly. It’s a big challenge because it cannot be seen in open eyes.      AH
