1st Bangladeshi woman to win ICC "player of the month'
Left-arm spinner Nahid Hasan scripted a history by becoming the first Bangladesh woman cricketer to win the ICC 'Player of the Month' award for her brilliant performance in November. She beat compatriot Fargana Hoque and Pakistan's Sadia Iqbal to achieve the accolade. "This is a moment to cherish," a highly elated Nahid described her reaction after winning the award. "To be recognised by such a distinguished panel of cricket experts means a lot and winning the ICC Women Player of the Month award will be a massive source of inspiration and motivation for me." Nahida Akter achieved the Player of the Month crown after tearing through opposition batters in her side's closely fought victory over Pakistan in Mirpur last month.   The first ODI encounter of the series saw Akter claim three wickets for 30 with a consistent spell of pressure bowling. With Pakistan chasing down a lowly 82 for victory, the spinner kept the contest competitive, claiming the wickets of Sidra Ameen, Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz to trouble the tourists in their charge to victory.   A quieter second match followed before she once more starred in the decisive third fixture. A superb economical 10-over spell produced three wickets for 26 runs as the tourists stumbled to 166 for nine in their 50 overs, laying the foundations for Akter's teammates to seal the series with the bat in a seven-wicket victory.   Nahida claimed the Player of the Series accolade after having taken seven wickets at an impressive average of 14.14 across the three matches.   "We have played some amazing cricket in recent months and I am so happy to have contributed to the successes we have tasted as a team. I must thank my captain, coaches and teammates for always believing in me and that has allowed me to play my natural game against quality opponents and perform under pressure," she added.   The 23-year-old is already the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in Women's T20Is and the third-highest in ODIs.   Meanwhile, Australia opener Travis won the 'Player of the Month' award in Men's category after his performance in semifinal and final played a key role in helping Australia win the ICC Cricket World Cup for the record sixth time. ICC suspends Sri Lanka over political interference
The game's governing body says Sri Lanka Cricket is in "serious breach" of its obligations to act independently of the government. The International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Sri Lanka's membership with immediate effect on Friday. The indefinite ban was down to political meddling, the ICC said, and comes a day after Sri Lanka's parliament asked the board to resign over accusations of corruption. Why the Sri Lanka Cricket board has been suspended Cricket's world governing body said it had found that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was "in serious breach of its obligations as a member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and to ensure that there is no government interference." In the aftermath of a disappointing World Cup performance, Sri Lanka's Sports Ministry replaced the national cricket board with an interim committee. However, a court ruling overturned the move and reinstated the old board.  Despite the Sri Lankan courts halting the move, the effective dismissal of the board and appointment of interim replacements by politicians in the country was apparently sufficient for the ICC to take action. The conditions of the suspension will be decided by the ICC board in due course, it said in a statement. The board is set to meet on November 21.  The SLC is the second ICC member to face suspension in the last four years, following a ban on Zimbabwe Cricket in 2019. What does suspension from the ICC mean?  While the suspension is in effect, Sri Lanka Cricket's funding from the ICC will be frozen.  Its men's and women's teams will also be barred from taking part in ICC events, or in other words, any competitive international cricket matches. Given Sri Lanka's difficult economic situation, barely a year on from a sovereign debt default, there could also be considerable impacts on the domestic game if the suspension endures. Poorer members tend to be more generally reliant on ICC funding for other cricketing expenses. The country is scheduled to host the under-19 men's World Cup, starting in January, which could provide a motive to the ICC to rapidly resolve the issue. Sri Lanka Cricket has in two separate statements rejected allegations of corruption from the government in Colombo, which are connected to preparations for hosting that tournament. The government accused the cricket body of transferring roughly $2 million from its accounts to third-party accounts.

Bangladesh suffer crushing defeat despite Mahmudullah's century
Bangladesh continued its dismal show in the ICC Cricket World Cup by tasting a crushing 149-run defeat to South Africa for their fourth straight loss at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 24. Quinton de Kock hammered a brutal 174 off 140 and Henrich Klaasen smashed a marauding 49 ball-90, helping South Africa rack up a mammoth 382-5. Bangladesh were bowled out 233 in 46.4 overs after suffering yet another top order batting order collapse. Reports BSS  Bangladesh opened the World Cup with a six-wicket victory against Afghanistan but thereafter lost their game to England, New Zealand and hosts India, vastly due to their listless batting effort. After South Africa compiling a huge total, a huge defeat looked imminent and it was further hastened when they were slumped to 81-6. Mahmudullah Riyad then put up fight to help Bangladesh go past 200 and reduced the margin of the defeat. He helped himself with fourth ODI century, three of which came in the World Cup stage. Before being ninth batter out, he scored run-a-ball-111 with 11 fours and four sixes. Opener Liton Das's 22 was the next-best scorer for the side.   The defeat almost ruined Bangladesh's hopes to seal the semifinal spot, which was their primary target in this World Cup. Opener Quinton de Kock's knock, laced with 15 boundaries and seven sixes was the cornerstone of South African innings. While Klaasen provided the late impetus, stand in captain Aiden Markram's serene 60 was another notable contribution. Three days ago, South Africa posted 399-7 at this venue to beat England by record 229-run margin. Bangladesh raised a hope to restrict South Africa to a reasonable total by bowling tight line and length initially. South Africa won the all important toss but in the face of disciplined Bangladesh attack were left to 36-2 in eighth overs with Reeza Hendricks (12) and Rassie van der Dussen (1) being out cheaply. Pacer Shoriful swung one nicely to get the better of Hendricks who in the last match gave the team a flying start against England. Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed the wicket of Dussen who got a plumb, playing a turning delivery across the line. As Bangladesh looked over the moon, de Kock and Markram calmly accumulated runs to pave the platform of death over carnage. They shared 131-run for the third wicket before Shakib Al Hasan had Markram caught by Liton Das at long-off after the batter struck seven boundaries in his knock. Klassen joined de Kock and with the platform being set, the duo looked all set to go on berserk. But to Bangladesh's credit and Shakib's intelligent bowling change curbed their aggression. But the explosion finally came after 40th over as South Africa piled up 144 runs in the final 10 overs, which meant they went for mind-blowing 14.4 runs per over. Quinton de Kock was the initiator. After completing third century in the ongoing World Cup in just his fifth match off 101 balls, he later took just 39 balls to score the last 74 runs. His high-octane batting was instrumental in waking up natural hitter Klaasen as he joined the party to leave the bowlers at hell. As he looked set to convert his 20th ODI century to his double ton, de Kock was victimized by soft dismissal, slicing a full delivery off Hasan Mahmud to deep backward point. But Klaasen gave the final impetus as South African kept running hard. Klaasen hit two fours and eight towering sixes in his knock before being out in the last over by Hasan Mahmud. David Miller who ended with 15 ball-34 not out was the another aggressor to deepen Bangladesh's crisis. Hasan Mahmud took two wickets but gave away 67 runs in his six overs. In fact all of the Bangladesh bowlers leaked runs.
