PM pays homage to Bangabandhu on his 48th martyrdom anniversary
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking his 48th martyrdom anniversary and the National Mourning Day. As part of the state programme, the prime minister paid homage to the architect of the country's independence by placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32 in the capital. Reports BSS After placing the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for some time to show profound respect to the great leader. A smartly turned out contingent of Bangladesh Armed Forces gave a state salute at that time, while the bugle played a tune of grief and somber to the last post. A munajat was also offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of the August 15 carnage. Later, flanked by senior Awami League (AL) leaders and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, Sheikh Hasina, also AL President, placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of the party. Speaker of the House, Chief Justice, cabinet members and chiefs of army, navy and air forces, among others, were present on the occasion. From Dhanmondi, the premier later went to the Banani Graveyard where her mother Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, brothers Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, and Sheikh Russel and other martyrs of August 15, 1975 were laid to eternal rest. She placed wreaths and spread flower petals on their graves. Sheikh Hasina also offered Fateha and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of August 15. The day is being observed across the country as National Mourning Day. Bangabandhu, his spouse Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, his three sons- Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel- and most of the family members of Bangabandhu and his three close relatives were assassinated in cold blood on the fateful night of August 15, 1975 by a group of disgruntled army men. Two daughters of Bangabandhu -- incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana -- could escape the carnage as they stayed abroad at that time.

EAM Jaishankar pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi in Uganda’s Jinja
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Wednesday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi in Uganda’s Jinja, at the source of the Nile river. Jinja is a town in southern Uganda, on the shore of Lake Victoria. The source of the Nile, at Coronation Park, is marked by a garden and a monument honouring British explorer John Hanning Speke. “Honoured to pay homage to Bapu, the apostle of peace and non-violence, in Jinja at the source of the Nile,” Jaishankar tweeted on Wednesday. “Gandhiji’s ashes, immersed in the Nile, reflects the universality of his message. And also his deep and abiding bond with Africa,” the EAM further wrote. EAM Jaishankar is on a visit to Uganda and Mozambique from April 10-15 to further strengthen India’s “strong bilateral relations” with the two countries. Marking a milestone in Indian-Uganda bilateral cooperation, Jaishankar inaugurated the first foreign campus of India’s National Forensic Sciences University in Jinja, Uganda on Wednesday. “A personal vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, its international footprint is a matter of particular satisfaction,” Jaishankar tweeted. Jaishankar also highlighted that this was a proud day for India, a proud day for Uganda and for the India-Uganda relationship. The inauguration of NFSU’s Uganda campus is an example of practical cooperation between the two nations, he added. Mentioning the courses offered by this university – Forensic Sciences in behavioural sciences, cyber security, digital forensics and allied sciences – Jaishakar said that he was confident that these courses will be in high demand and will bring immense benefits to all the stakeholders in Uganda and in Africa. In his remarks at the inauguration of the NFSU in Uganda, Jaishankar said, “India’s National Forensic Sciences University is opening its campus in Uganda, partnering with the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces. This is the first foreign campus of the National Forensic Sciences University. Even more important, it is actually the first government University of India opening a campus anywhere abroad in the world.” Jaishankar on Monday met Uganda’s President Yoweri K Museveni at his farm in Rwakitura and congratulated the country on assuming the chairship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). “Privileged to call on President @KagutaMuseveni of Uganda at his farm in Rwakitura. Conveyed the personal greetings of PM @narendramodi. Appreciated his guidance on furthering our traditional and long-standing ties,” Jaishankar tweeted. He also discussed cooperation in trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, defence, health, digital and agricultural domains. “Discussed cooperation in trade & investment, infrastructure, energy, defence, health, digital and agricultural domains. Congratulated Uganda on assuming the chairship of the NAM and affirmed our strong coordination at multilateral forums including the United Nations,” the EAM tweeted.

President, PM pay homage to Liberation War martyrs
President Mohammad Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to the Liberation War martyrs by placing wreaths at the National Memorial here on the outskirts of the capital early this morning, marking the 53rd Independence and National Day. The President first placed the wreath at the altar of the memorial followed by the Prime Minister. After laying the wreaths, the President and the Premier stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the Great War of Liberation in 1971. A smartly turned-out contingent drawn from Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force presented a state salute at that time while the bugles played the last post. The Head of the State and the Head of the Government also signed the visitors’ book kept on the memorial premises. Flanked by her party leaders, Sheikh Hasina, also the President of the Awami League, paid glowing tributes to the Liberation War martyrs by placing another wreath at the National Memorial on behalf of her party. Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, senior AL leaders, leaders of AL-led 14-party alliance and high civil and military officials, among others, were present there. Later, the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) speaker and the chief justice also paid homage to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the National Mausoleum. Every year, the March 26 brings the most tragic reminiscence of the history's blackest episode that heralded a nine-month bloody ordeal from the night of March 25, 1971, achieving the long-cherished independence on December 16 the same year at the cost of a sea of blood. In the wake of the military crackdown by the then Pakistan occupation force, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh through the then EPR (East Pakistan Rifles) wireless at 00-30 hours on March 26 (the night following March 25) in 1971 at his historic Road-32 residence at Dhanmondi here. The day is very auspicious and precious to the Bengali nation.

President, PM pay homage to Bangabandhu at Tungipara
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here on his 103rd birth anniversary and the National Children's Day-2023. The President and the Prime Minister in person paid their homage by placing wreaths at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu at Tungipara in Gopalganj at about 10:30 am. President Hamid first laid a wreath at Bangabandhu's mazar followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After placing the wreaths, they stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation. A smartly turned out contingent drawn from Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force gave an honour guard on the occasion. Flanked by senior leaders of her party, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, placed another wreath at the mazar of Bangabandhu on behalf of the party. President's wife Rashida Khanam along with her son Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, MP, and the Prime Minister along with her family members also separately paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu by pacing floral wreaths. Abdul Hamid and Sheikh Hasina offered Fateha and joined a munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu as well as other martyrs of the August 15 carnage. Cabinet members, PM's advisers, parliament members and senior leaders of Bangladesh Awami League were present. The President also signed the visitor's book kept on the mausoleum premises. On his arrival on the mausoleum premises, President Abdul Hamid was received by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Premier earlier reached Tungipara at 10 in the morning by road. She started journey for Tungipara after placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on Dhanmondi Road No 32 in the capital.   The birthday of Bangabandhu is being observed across the country as the National Children's Day for many years. On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu, the vivacious leader of the Bangali nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bangalee of all times, came off in a respected Muslim family at Tungipara village of Gopalganj sub-division, now district.
