Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized the need for a trained population to transform the country into a Smart Bangladesh by 2041 and urged all concerned to make the training curriculum time worthy and timely by keeping up with technological advancements. She said, "For the development of a nation, training is required. The world is changing. This is the age of technology. We have to move forward by dealing with technological advancements." Attending the eighth meeting of the National Training Council (NCT) held at Ganabhaban today, April 16, prime minister said her government is taking plans to make the country a developed and smart Bangladesh in line with Vision 2041. Referring to the question about what is Smart Bangladesh, the Prime Minister said, "We will develop a smart population with technical training. Our economy will be smart economy based on technology. Even our health and agriculture will be technology based and mechanized. We want to be smart about all these things." She said, "By using technology, we want to make society and government smart." Sheikh Hasina said, "The NCT has been given the responsibility of formulating the training policy as well as reviewing and evaluating it and making it time efficient." She said, "We have to move forward gradually. We want to improve by involving the entire population. No one will be left behind." The Prime Minister said, "We believe that Bangladesh will move towards socio-economic development at an unstoppable speed." She added, "Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, Bangladesh has made progress. We have been able to reduce the poverty rate to 18.7 percent and the hardcore poverty rate to 5.6 percent. Inshallah, there will be no extreme poverty in Bangladesh."

Taliban rulers of Afghanistan have decided to drop certain subjects from the higher education curriculum as they do not go with the Islamic Sharia Law. Recently, private education institutes and universities opened in the country where girls and boys could not sit together. Acting minister of higher education Shaikh Abdul Baqi Haqqani said on Sunday that mixed classes between girls and boys are not acceptable and some changes will be brought to the curriculum, reports Tolo News. Abdul Baqi said at a press conference as quoted by Tolo News: “When the preparation ends, the date will be announced (date for opening government universities) and it will take less than a week.” “Each subject that is against Islamic Laws will be removed,” he said. Meanwhile, the current state of education in the country has raised doubts in the minds of students. Abdul Rahim, a student, told Tolo News: “Teachers and students are not present. A small number of students are coming to the universities. We are worried about our future.” "There is no interest. Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said, new types of curriculum are going to be prepared to prevent the tendency of getting excess GPA by the students. The actual merit of the students cannot be evaluated through obtaining GPA. She said this while joining a book publishing program virtually organized by the Education Reporters’ Association, Bangladesh (ERAB) on Saturday afternoon. The Education Minister said, at present students are anxious about getting more GPA, there is a competition in this regard. So we are considering to get the students out of this imbalance competition. Environment will be created in the educational institutions for learning. In this way the hidden talent of a student will be expressed and for that necessary curriculum are being prepared. She said, everybody will be driven out of the tendency of getting more GPA. In this regard new textbooks are being created. Our students are learning but they cannot express. There are some reasons behind. Those are being identified and will be solved. The minister continued as saying, no teacher will go to the classroom without obtaining proper training. It will be ensured. Earlier teachers used to get the opportunity of foundation training three to four years after their appointment. It has been changed. AH  

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said, the curriculum modification activities are in process to improve the quality of education. The government is emphasizing on teachers training and infrastructural development as well as technical and ICT education. She said this while delivering her speech as the chief guest at the inaugural program of training for the master trainers of primary school teachers in English at a hotel in the capital on Sunday. The Education Minister said, students are studying English as compulsory basis. But many of them are weak in it. To overcome this weakness training for teachers is very important. The training program jointly organized by primary and mass education ministry and British Council is much praiseworthy. At the program State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain said, in every district English version will be introduced in one particular government primary school. For this purpose two English teachers will be appointed in every school. The piloting to start English version will start soon. Later the summary will be sent to the Prime Minister. We will start the program after getting approval from the premier. High officials of British Council and British High Commission including Secretary of primary and mass education ministry Md. Hasibul Alam and Director General of primary education directorate Alamgir Mohammad Monsurul Alam were present in the program. Mentionable, with cooperation from British Council one thousand primary teachers will be given special training in English through nine Primary Training Institute. Additional one lakh 30 thousand teachers will be given training by phases. AH
