Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Bangkok on a six-day official visit to Thailand at the invitation of of Prime Minister of Thailand Srettha Thavisin. Sheikh Hasina has given a guard of honour and a 19-round gun-salute at the airport. The flight is scheduled to land at Dong Mueang International Airport in Bangkok at 1:08 pm (local time) on Wednesday (24 April). She was given a red carpet reception at the airport. She received in Bangkok by Thai Prime Minister Shretha Thavisin. The two Prime Ministers will hold a bilateral meeting at Government House in Thailand today (24 April). A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the prime minister and her entourage members took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:12 am. Her visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. This is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's first bilateral visit after forming the present government in January. "This is a bilateral and multilateral visit," Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said at a press conference on Monday. This visit is significant for both sides. Because it will open a new window of cooperation between the two friendly countries (Bangladesh and Thailand). During the visit, Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral talks with Thai Prime Minister Thavisin and attend the 80th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) on Thursday (25 April).

International flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines towards the destinations of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, England and Thailand have been suspended. The information was mentioned in a notice on the website of Biman on Sunday. The notice said, flights towards the destination of Madinah, Kuwait and Bangkok have been suspended till May 31. Besides, London flight has been suspended till June 30. International flight operation was suspended from April 14 due to coronavirus transmission situation in the country. But later considering the matter of visa expiration of the stranded expatriate workers permission was given for flights operation towards UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Singapore starting from April 17 through special flights. Permission was also given for special flights operation towards Kuwait and Bahrain from April 25. But regular flight operation has not been permitted yet. AH    

The first-ever Bangabandhu Chair, a PhD level doctoral fellowship, was opened at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday (Thursday), reports BSS. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai jointly inaugurated the "Bangabandhu Chair" at the AIT, according to a message received here yesterday (Thursday). The "Bangabandhu Chair" is a PhD level doctoral fellowship endowed by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the AIT for research on the contemporary topic of 'Sustainable and Integrated Smart Energy Modeling' in the context of Bangladesh and other developing countries. The Chair has been named after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to permanently preserve the country's founding father's footprints in Thailand. Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, chairman of the Trustee Board of Asian Institute of Technology Dr Subin Pinkayan, professor of Bangabandhu Chair Dr Joyashree Roy and Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem, among others, spoke at the function.
