While electioneering in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election, Awami League nominated mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam entered into a tea stall. Then he prepared tea for the customers. At that time people who were sitting in the tea stall and accompanying him took the tea prepared by him. It was a scene from the election campaign of Atiqul Islam at Aftab Nagar in the capital on Monday. People gathered at that time in front of the shop. It was known that Atiqul prepared eight cups of tea at the tea stall of Yasin. While getting out of the shop he paid eight hundred taka to the shop owner. After allotment of election symbol the Awami League nominated mayoral aspirant began his public connection program from Uttara on January 10. The voting will take place of the DNCC and DSCC elections on January 30. AH

Businessman leader and mayoral aspirant of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election Atiqul Islam has said, I have firm believe and determination that I will get the nomination of Awami League. I hope hundred percent. After submitting nomination papers at the Awami League office on Monday he said to the newsmen, if I was not given the nomination then I will beside the candidate whom the Prime Minister would give through nomination board. Atiqul Islam said, Annisul Huq (late Mayor) proved that how Dhaka city can be decorated beautifully after coming from nonpolitical background. Businessmen can come to politics as well as politicians can come to business. There is no obstacle to this end. I think how the Prime Minister gave chance to Annisul Huq, like that if I would be given chance then I certainly can make beautiful Dhaka under her leadership. According to a source of Awami League, the meeting of Awami League local government nomination board is called on Tuesday. There the candidates for DNCC Mayor, Ward Counselors and reserved Women Counselors for 36 wards which were included newly will be finalized. It will be known after the meeting that who are getting the nominations from the party. The voting will take place for the mayoral post of DNCC on February 26. The post fell vacant after death of Annisul Huq. Voting will also take place in 36 wards of DNCC and DSCC. Voting will take place under party symbol for the mayor post. According to the Election Commission schedule, nomination papers can be submitted till January 18. Scrutinizing will take place on January 21 and 22. The last date of candidacy withdrawal is January 29. AH
