Admission up to class nine through new method: Minister
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said, from class one to class nine under secondary level student will be admitted through lottery (new method) in this corona pandemic situation. She said this on Wednesday afternoon while participating at a virtual press conference on admission of students in secondary level educational institutions. The Education Minister said, this year catchment area (adjacent area to the school) percentage will be increased from 40 to 50 percent. Regarding cluster based admission one can choose five schools. Through lottery admission will be done with utmost transparency. Strict action will be taken if any educational institution takes excess fee during admission. Admission procedures should be completed from January 10 to 15. She said, SSC and HSC examination of 2021 session may be deferred by two months. Because, we want to take class for at least three months under short syllabus before the examination. Dipu Moni said, results of HSC examinations for the year 2020 will be published within December. Resumption of classes depends on the situation. At the beginning of the classes all have to follow some health guidelines. In that case classes may not be held for all for all week days. Emphasis will be given to the classes of SSC and HSC level students. For them classes may be held for six days in a week. The minister also said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the book festival on January 1 like every year. But books will not be distributed through gatherings in this year. Direction will be given to the schools about method of book distribution. Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Secretary of secondary and higher education division of the education ministry Md. Mahmub Hossain, technical and madrasa division Secretary Md. Aminul Islam, Director General of secondary and higher education directorate Professor Golam Faruk and Chairmen of different education boards were connected in the virtual press conference.
