The admission test of 'Kha' unit (Arts, Law and Social Science Faculty) for the academic year 2023-24 of Dhaka University is going to start from today. The admission test will be held simultaneously in eight divisions of the country including Dhaka on Friday (February 23) at 11 am. According to the notification published on the university's website, the admission test will begin on February 23. The admission test will end on March 9.  

The admission test results for the academic year 2023-24 of the government and private medical colleges of the country have been published. Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Professor Dr Samanta Lal Sen, officially announced the result. This time, 1,04,374 candidates participated in the examination. 49 thousand 923 students have qualified this year. The passing rate is 47.83 percent. The minimum marks (pass mark) in the MBBS and BDS admission test has been kept at 40. Students scoring less than 40 marks in written examination are considered as failure. The district quota has been canceled in the admission test. Among the candidates,Tanjim Muntaka Sarba, former student of Holy Cross College, has secured the top spot among medical admission seekers for the 2023-24 session.

Three more public universities will hold cluster entry tests for the academic year 2023-2024. The universities are Kurigram Agricultural University, Sunamganj University of Science and Technology, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Pirojpur. A press release issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) said the decision was taken unanimously in a discussion meeting on cluster-based admission tests in public universities on Sunday (Jan 14) at the UGC building.   A total of 35 universities will hold the examinations in three separate groups: general, science and technology, and agriculture and engineering.   Vice chancellors of 32 public universities were present in the meeting chaired by UGC Chairman (Additional Charge) Prof Dr Muhammad Alamgir.   Professor Alamgir said, “UGC is working to maintain the independence and identity of the universities. Participating in cluster system admission tests will not detract from the character of public universities.”  

The admission test for medical colleges under 2023-24 academic sessions will be held on February 9. The one-hour-long admission test will begin at 10am on the day. The decision was taken at a meeting on the MBBS and BDS admission tests for the academic year 2023-24 held at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday (Dec 24). All coaching centres will remain closed for a month. Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque presided over the meeting.  

As the agitations of students demanding admission tests in the universities and reopening of residential halls have been got momentum, so all the previous decisions related to admission tests have been cancelled. Decision will be taken after discussion about admission tests as in which time frame the admission tests would be organized. The minister said this while joining an emergency press conference through online platform on Monday. She said, classes at the classrooms will start on May 24 and the residential halls will reopen on May 17. So the examinees have to wait for three more months. Educational institutions of the country have been announced closed since March 17 last year due to coronavirus pandemic situation. The closure has been extended up to February 28 in several stages. The education ministry has taken decision to reopen the public and private universities of the country as the contraction rate has turned in to downward trend. The minister also informed that date of BCS examination application and examinations will be fixed considering the opening date of the universities. The decision of reopening schools and colleges will be taken after February 28. AH   

President of Bangladesh University Council and CUET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Alam has informed that date for the admission tests of Bachelor (hons) degree for the session 2020-21 under different universities of the country have been fixed. The decision was taken at the virtual meeting of Bangladesh University Council, an organization of the Vice Chancellors of different universities across the country.  The admission test for the students of science, humanities and commerce group under 20 universities will be held on last two Saturdays of June and first two Saturdays of July. The admission test under cluster method of seven agricultural universities will be held on May 29. Besides, admission tests for BUET will be held on June 10 and for RUET, KUET, CUET the admission tests will be held on June 12. The admission tests of Dhaka University will take place on June 21,22,27 and 28 June. The test of Jahangir Nagar University will be held from June 3 to 18.  Moreover, tests under cluster for the engineering universities will take place on June 18, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University on June 27, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University on June 4,5. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has informed that process is going on to perform dope test for the students before their admission in the universities and colleges across the country. He said this after participating the ministerial meeting on law and order situation at the meeting room of home ministry at secretariat in the capital on Wednesday. The minister said, dope test will be made mandatory before any type of government appointment. Besides, dope test method will be started before admission of students at the universities and colleges. To make the country free from drugs directions have been given to emphasize about three matters. Action will be taken to curb and identify the drug takers, drug peddlers and their patrons. Mozammel Haque said, by this time dope test system has been started among the law enforcement agency members. Actions were taken against the drug addicts. Still dope tests are being performed for the suspected persons. AH

Preparation is going on to take Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bangladesh Dental Society (BDS) admission tests for the session 2020-21 in the country. Health Minister Zahid Maleque has informed that the examinations may take place in April next. He delivered the information at ‘Meet the Reporters’ program at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday. The minister said, total 1,100 seats for the government medical colleges will be increased. As a result more students will be able to get admitted in the government medical colleges. According to sources, the medical admission test organizing committee has sent proposal to the health ministry to change the schedule of MBBS and BDS admission tests as the results of HSC and equivalent examinations are going to be published in a delayed process. According to the proposal permission has been sought to organize the MBBS test on April 2 and Dental test on April 30. The decision was taken to change the date of the admission tests at the meeting of admission test organizing committee. AH

The time to apply for admission in class one to nine in the government secondary level schools has been extended till January 7. The information was delivered by secondary and higher education directorate on Thursday. It is known that those who could not apply due to age complexities now can apply till January 7. The directorate of secondary and higher education has extended the time period following writ filed with the High Court. Besides, the suspended lottery for the admission will be held on January 11. According to the government rules the minimum age for admission in class one is more than six years and for class six it is 11 years. But due to the writ petition and following the directives the digital lottery activities were suspended and time for apply and lottery has been fixed a fresh. The application through online can be made from today. The software for submitting application will be active till 5pm of January 7. Earlier, the deadline for submitting application of secondary level students was December 27 and the selection process through online lottery was scheduled to hold on December 30. AH     

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said, from class one to class nine under secondary level student will be admitted through lottery (new method) in this corona pandemic situation. She said this on Wednesday afternoon while participating at a virtual press conference on admission of students in secondary level educational institutions. The Education Minister said, this year catchment area (adjacent area to the school) percentage will be increased from 40 to 50 percent. Regarding cluster based admission one can choose five schools. Through lottery admission will be done with utmost transparency. Strict action will be taken if any educational institution takes excess fee during admission. Admission procedures should be completed from January 10 to 15. She said, SSC and HSC examination of 2021 session may be deferred by two months. Because, we want to take class for at least three months under short syllabus before the examination. Dipu Moni said, results of HSC examinations for the year 2020 will be published within December. Resumption of classes depends on the situation. At the beginning of the classes all have to follow some health guidelines. In that case classes may not be held for all for all week days. Emphasis will be given to the classes of SSC and HSC level students. For them classes may be held for six days in a week. The minister also said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the book festival on January 1 like every year. But books will not be distributed through gatherings in this year. Direction will be given to the schools about method of book distribution. Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Secretary of secondary and higher education division of the education ministry Md. Mahmub Hossain, technical and madrasa division Secretary Md. Aminul Islam, Director General of secondary and higher education directorate Professor Golam Faruk and Chairmen of different education boards were connected in the virtual press conference. AH
