BNP has decided not to take part in the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections as a party. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced about this decision on Sunday at a press conference after holding standing committee meeting on Saturday.

He said, we thought that the government will hold the local government elections in a fair way and the Election Commission would organize it in a fair means. But so far the elections were held those were so frustrating that we have decided not to take part in the upcoming UP elections.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged, as BNP believes in democracy so it decided to take part in the local government elections in this adverse situation. But the recent elections proved that this Election Commission has no eligibility to hold a free, fair and neutral election. The task of this election commission is to implement the agenda of this unelected government.

When asked about whether they would refrain from taking part in all types of elections he said, we will inform you about this if there is any decision taken in the standing committee meeting in this regard. So far our party has decided that we will not take part in the Union Parishad elections. We will not nominate anybody for this election.
