Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association (BMPIA) has announced to pay for old or out of order mobile phone sets if somebody returns those. The mobile phone importers have said about this new initiative for e-waste management.

BMPIA said about this initiative in a roundtable organized by Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh (TRNB) at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.

In the program Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, it needs specific business planning for e-waste management. Employment opportunities will increase if e-waste management is taken under coverage of specific business planning. Besides, the work will continue automatically. Many people can be appointed.

Mustafa Jabbar said, it is the responsibility of environment directorate for monitoring and providing legal basis over e-waste management. There are some matters beyond these. Such as, management for non-recyclable commodities.

He said, it may happen that the union councils have to think about e-waste after 10 years. We have to think how it can be stood as business proposition. It may be made as a part of business planning, so that e-waste can be collected automatically. Concerned have come forward in this regard.
