12 to get Bangla Academy Award

Bangla Academy has declared the Literary Award for the year 2017. This year 12 eminent poets, writers and researchers are going to receive the award in 10 sections for their contribution in different fields in literature.

Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan declared the name of recipients at a press conference at the Muier Chowdhury meeting room in Bangla Academy on Saturday.

The award winners are - Mohammad Sadik and Maruful Islam (poetry), Mamun Hossain (fiction), Professor Mahbubul Haque (essay), Professor Rafiqullah Khan (research), Aminur Rahman Bhuiyan (translation), Kamrul Hasan Bhuiyan and Surma Jahid (literature on Liberation War), Shakur Majid (biography and travelogue), Maloy Bhoumik (drama), Moshtak Ahmed (science, technology and environment) and Jhrana Dash Purokhayshto (juvenile literature).

Each of the winners will get 1 lakh taka, crest and certificate.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the awards to the recipients in the inaugural program of Amar Ekushey Book Fair on February 1.

Earlier on Saturday Bangla Academy Executive Council approved the award winners’ name in a meeting presided over by Asad Chowdhury.

Bangla Academy Director Shahida Khatun, Dr. Jalal Ahmed and others were present during the award winners’ name declaring program.
