Facebook, twitter to go off during SSC exams

Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations are scheduled to begin on February 1. Education ministry has directed to keep all social media including Facebook and Twitter shut for a certain time.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid came up with the decision while talking to the newsmen at the secretariat on Tuesday.

The Minister said, like the other years the examinations of morning shift will begin at 10 am and afternoon shift at 2 pm. All the social networks will remain closed for those particular 3 hours of ongoing examinations.

Earlier the education ministry decided to keep all the coaching centers shut from three days before to completion of the SSC and equivalent examinations throughout the country.

In the recent years the government had to face huge criticism over allegation of question paper leakage. That’s why the decision was taken to prevent question paper leaks during examinations.

The Education Minister said, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) was asked to shut down Facebook for specific time.

He said, here I mentioned Facebook for technological aspects. I only mentioned one. BTRC will take all necessary actions against the people who take technological advantage from social networks to leak question papers of the examinations.
