Pro-AL panel sweeps DU registered graduate polls

Awami League-backed panel Ganatantrik Oikya Parishad won the elections of registered graduate representatives of the Dhaka University (DU) senate bagging 24 posts out of 25 on Sunday. Reports UNB.

On the other hand Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) backed Jatiyatabadi Parishad bagged only one post by former DU Prof-VC Prof AFM Yususf Haider.

Election Commissioner and Pro-VC (Education) of DU Prof Nasreen Ahmad, announced the results at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

The elected registered graduates from the Pro-AL panel are- Rupali Bank Managing Director Ataur Rahman Prodhan, DU Teachers’ Association President Prof ASM Maksud Kamal¸ freedom fighter M Farid Uddin, Journalists Union (BFJU) President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, DU syndicate member SM Bahlul Majnun Chunnu, GOP president Md. Abdus Samad, DU sociology Prof Zinat Huda, Jogonnath Hall provost Prof Asim Sarker, BSMMU Prof M Iqbal Arslan, DU Social Science faculty dean Prof Sadeka Halim, World Teachers’ Federation President Mahfuza Khanam, DU English dept. Prof Tajin Aziz Chowdhury, DU prof Emran Kabir Chowdhury, freedom fighter AHM Enamul Hoque, Krishi Bank GM Liakot Hossain, Sonali Bank Bangabandhu Parishad president Md Alauddin, DU prof Sayed Humayun Akhter, DU senate member Ramendra Majumder, Janata Bank AGM ABM Badruddoza, NBR global bank Chairman Nizam Chowdhury, DU Science faculty dean Prof Abdul Aziz, Md Abul Bari, Ranojid Kumar Shaha and ABM Nasir Uddin.

A total of 80 candidates from three panels-Pro AL ‘Gonotantrik Oikya Parishad, Pro BNP Jatiyatabadi Parishad panel and leftist backed panel ‘Progoti Parishad’ and independent candidates raced in the DU senate registered graduate polls for 25 representatives in the senate members out of 105.

A total of 22 thousand 642 voters cast their votes among 43 thousand 997 votes where 1 thousand 260 votes were cancelled.

On Saturday, the final phase election of registered graduate representatives to the Dhaka University senate held on the university campus.

Earlier, the two phases of the election were held at 42 polling stations outside Dhaka on 6 and 13 January.
