Bangladesh government has signed hajj agreement with Saudi Arabia for the current year. This year 1 lakh 27 thousand 198 Bangladeshis are going to perform hajj. Of the number seven thousand 198 people will perform hajj under government and 1 lakh 20 thousand people will go under nongovernment initiatives.

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman delivered the information to the newsmen at a press conference in the ministry on Sunday.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines will carry 50 percent of the total hajj passengers while the rest 50 percent will be carried by Saudi Arabian Airlines.

The hajj agreement was signed in Makkah of Saudi Arabia on January 14. Religious Affairs Minister of Bangladesh Principal Motiur Rahman and Hajj and Umrah Affairs Minister of Saudi Arabia Dr. Mohammad Saleh Bin Taher Bentan signed the deal.

The devotees have already done their pre-registration for this year’s hajj. The hajj aspirants will do their final registration after declaring the hajj package by the ministry.

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman said, the Saudi government imposed five percent VAT on their citizens. Authority of that country also wants to apply it for the hajj passengers. Discussion is going on between Saudi and Bangladesh government so that Bangladeshi hajj passengers would be out of that VAT coverage.
