Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent an overwhelming letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of International Day of Yoga.
This year, the world will mark the seventh International Yoga Day. Like previous year, this year’s Yoga Day will also be celebrated under the shadow of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The theme for this year’s Int’l Yoga Day is “Yoga for Wellness”, which is particularly relevant in the current context.
Relating the importance of Yoga with the current situation Modi said, “Yoga is good for community, immunity, and unity. The theme of the International Day of Yoga celebrations this year reflects the concern for the good health and wellbeing of people across the globe. It is an endeavor to ensure that we focus on fitness as well as wellness.”
Showing his deepest gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he stated in the letter, “I wish to extend through your good offices, my deepest gratitude for the cooperation and efforts extended by one and all in making the International Day of Yoga celebrations a resounding success every year in Bangladesh… I am sure that Int’l Day of Yoga celebrations will continue to enjoy your Government’s support in the year ahead.”
In 2014, the overwhelming response of the United Nations General Assembly to recognize June 21 as International Day of Yoga underlined the universal appeal of Yoga that transcends all barriers. Since then, the International Day of Yoga has been marked globally with great fervor.
