Bangladeshi film director detained in Malaysia

Malaysian detective police have detained Bangladeshi film director Ananya Mamun over allegation of human trafficking. Mamun was detained from a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday night local time over allegation of human trafficking under banner of cultural programs. He is now under police custody.

A group of artists of local showbiz arena left Bangladesh on the earlier day to take part cultural program ‘Bangladesh Nights’ on December 23. But they began to face different kinds of problems after landing in the Malaysian airport.

It is known that after arrival many of the tour members were kept confined for hours. At that time when contacted with one of the main organizing members Mamun, he concealed the matter.

Several sources told Rtv online that Mamun was associated with human trafficking over the shadow of cultural program. Mamun and his associates restrained the people to go outside from a flat as they could not reach an agreement over financial matters.

In the night local people informed the police after hearing shouting from the flat at Kuala Lumpur. Later police came and detained the young film director.

Meanwhile, after hearing the news of Mamun’s arrest sharp criticism has begun in the film industry. It is known that directors association would take stern action if the allegation is proved.

Earlier, there was allegation against this film director of releasing Indian film in the local cinema halls in the name of joint production. Bangladesh Film Directors Association cancelled his membership for his controversial activities. But later his membership was given back pardoning him under special consideration.
