WB forecast inconsistent to country’s economy: Finance Minister

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said, World Bank (WB) is an international financial institution. When they present any information about any country or matter, usually that influences all. The World Bank on Thursday delivered the forecast regarding growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country, which is inconsistent to Bangladesh’s present development of economics.

The information was delivered through a press release sent from the finance ministry on Friday.

The Finance Minister said, the number which they have said about our GDP growth that was also being said from the beginning of slow pace of economics influenced by the corona situation. They are still in the same stance. Three months have passed of our fiscal year. Still there are nine months ahead. The slow pace that was created is quite normal at the moment.

Despite mentionable pressure on our health and pandemic management system the timely financial incentives and social protection system enforced by the government has made the economics stable, it also has ensured basic services and commodities for the poor, said the Finance Minister.

In the WB report the GDP growth rate 1.6 percent was forecasted for the fiscal year 2020-21. It also has forecasted GDP growth rate 3.4 percent for the fiscal year 2021-22. The report also mentioned that South Asia is heading towards an unprecedented economic recession affected by the coronavirus pandemic situation.
