First LNG shipment from Qatar to arrive in April

The government is importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) against the increasing demand of it. The ship carrying 50 crore cubic feet gas from Qatar is scheduled to anchor in Maheshkhali on April 23.

Secretary of energy and mineral resources ministry Nazim Uddin Chowdhury said this on Sunday.

He said, the first consignment of the imported LNG will reach in the country on April 23. In this phase 50 crore cubic feet LNG will be brought. The ship carrying the gas will anchor at Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.

The Secretary said, this gas will be added in the national grid from April 25. In this purpose the government already set up 91 kilometers pipeline from Maheshkhali to Anwara in Chittagong.

He said, to meet the demand of country’s gas supply this LNG is being imported from state owned gas company RasGas of Qatar.

Nazim Uddin said that to meet the demand the government also keeps the way open for other importing sources. This imported gas will be supplied in Chittagong. The gas pressure will rise in the port city with this initiative.

According to the information of power, energy and mineral resources ministry, last year Petrobangla made a deal to import LNG from Qatar. According to the deal RasGas will supply 28 lakh metric tons of LNG each year to Bangladesh and it will continue for 15 years. The price of this gas will be fixed at the rate of international crude oil.

Export earnings rise 10% in March

LPG price cut by Tk 40 for 12 kg cylinder

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of a 12-kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Tk 40 at the retailer level. The price of bottled soybean oil has been hiked by Tk 4 on the other hand the price of loose soybean oil reduced by Tk 2 per litre.
