No gas price hike at the moment

The price of gas is not going to be raised at the moment. The decision was taken for withdrawing import duty on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

The information came through at a press conference on behalf of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) held at TCB Bhaban at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Tuesday.

Earlier in the last week BERC wanted to know about government decision regarding hike of gas price.

But Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed not to raise price of any kind of gas before the upcoming election.

Basically the distribution companies proposed to raise price of all kinds of gases except residential and commercial connection.

BERC Chairman Monwar Islam said, government is providing subsidy to energy sector. Due to none hike of price 3 thousand 100 crore taka needs to be assisted to Petrobangla.

Besides, the government was able to reduce the system loss in gas distribution in the last several months through different initiatives, he added.
