2 ‘criminals’ killed in Chuadanga ‘gunfight’
Two ‘criminals’, accused in almost a dozen cases, were killed in a gunfight between two groups of criminals in Chuadanga’s Damurhuda Upazila on Thursday night.
The dead were identified as Jhantu, son of Abul Kasem of Ishwarchandrapur village, and Firoz alias Dhulo of Charulia village of Damurhuda Upazila.
Damurhuda Model Police Station OC Sukumar Biswas said the incident took place at 3am on Friday.
Being informed that two gangs were exchanging fire at a field near Gobindhuda Village, police rushed to the spot and found Jhantu and Dhulo lying on the field with bullet injuries, he said.
They were taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead.
“We are suspecting that they might be killed during a feud over control of the drug trafficking business in the area,” said Abu Rasel, additional police super of the district.
Jhantu is Home Ministry’s listed drug traffickers, police said, adding that he was accused in 11 cases at various police stations while Dhulo was an notorious local extremist and was accused in over a dozen cases, including six for murder.
A firearm, two rounds of ammunition, six grenades and three bottles of Phensedyl were recovered from the spot.
