Key accused Babul Mia was arrested by Law enforcers in the case filed over the rape and murder of Beauty Akter of Shayestaganj Upazila in Habiganj last night.

Babul Mia was arrested from Bianibazaar area of Sylhet by joint team of Rapid Action Battalion and police, Additional Superintendent of Police Maniruzzaman, senior assistant director (Media) of Rab-9, told our Moulvibazar correspondent.

Beauty, 16, went missing from Habiganj on March 16 and police recovered her body the next day.

The teenage girl, was stalked and harassed on her way to work by Babul Mia and his accomplices. After she complained about the harassment, she was kidnapped from her home, taken to an unidentified place where she was kept hostage for a month (January 21–Febraury 21), and raped by Babul Mia.

Later, the victim's father Sayed Ali, a day labourer, filed a rape and abduction case against 11 people including Babul Mia and his mother, who is a local UP member, with Habiganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.

As Babul threatened them to withdraw the case, Sayed sent his daughter to a relative's house in Lakhai upazila on March 13.

On March 16, Babul reportedly kidnapped her again and raped her and killed her. Later, the body was left in a haor in the area.

The victim’s father filed a case with the Shayestaganj police station on March 17 against Babul Miah, 30, son of Malai Miah of the Dakkhin Hati village, and his mother Komal Chan.

Demra clothing warehouse fire under control after 9 hours

Metro rail to operate after 9pm from 16 Ramadan

Dhaka Metro rail authority said metro rail will run for an additional hour from 16 Ramadan considering the passengers demand ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. With the increased operations, the last train from Motijheel will depart at 9:40pm and from Uttara at 9:20pm. However, DMTCL, has decided to stop operations of metro rail on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) managing director MAN Siddique said to the reporters that they have a target to carry about 500,000 passengers a day. Metro rail will increase it's operations, metro rail will run 194 times on both sides during this time.
