Two Beaten to Death in Rangpur on Suspicion of Cow Theft

On suspicion of cow theft, angry villagers killed two at Pirganj Upazila in Rangpur. The incident took place in Madarpur village on Monday morning.

Killed one’s name is Raju. His home is at Bhanurkanda village of Shibganj Upazila in Bogra. The identity of the other could not be known.

Confirming the matter Officer-in-Charge of Pirganj Police Station, Rezaul Karim said, in the morning a gang of 4-5 people came to steal cow with a pick-up van in Madarpur village. At the time getting information, the locals chased and caught the two. Later, the agitated people beat them to death on the spot.

He also said the bodies of the dead were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Ramanathpur Union Chairman Sadequl Islam said that in the last one month, 155 cows were stolen in his union. Local people filed cases with the police station but police could not arrest a single thief. So the farmers were guarding the cattle houses in the night to protect cattle.
