Lighter ship stuck in Bay of Bengal; 14 sailors, crew rescued

A fertilizer-laden lighter ship got stuck on a hidden shoal in Meher Alir Char area of the Bay of Bengal early Friday and Coast Guard rescued its 14 sailors and crew.
Coast Guard Mongla West Zone’s operation officer Lt Inteaz Alam said lighter ship MV New Parvin-2 was going to Nawapara in Jashore loading 950 mts fertilizers from a mother vessel in the Bay of Bengal.
It was stuck on a hidden shoal around 4am, he added.
On information Coast Guard members went to the spot and rescued 14 sailors and crew at 5:15pm and took them to Dublar Char Coast Guard’s station.

Eid shopping picks up in the capital
Eid shopping has started in different markets of the capital. On the 7th day of Ramadan, crowds were seen in different markets including New Market, Gausia Market, Chandni Chowk, Mouchak Market, Eastern Plaza, Fortune Market, Bailey Road on Sunday (March 17) afternoon.
Many brought their families. Eid shopping is being done in advance to avoid extra crowds. They are happy with their favorite product.
However, buyers complain that the price of clothing is comparatively high. On the other hand, the sellers are expecting good sales on Eid after seeing such a crowd of buyers at the beginning of Ramadan.
Junayat Hossain has been doing business in Mouchak Market for about eight years. He told Rtv News that business has not been good in the last few years due to various reasons including corona. Sales have been fairly good since the beginning of Ramadan.
Sohrab, a businessman of New Market, said, "This time we have picked up some different designs keeping the demand of the buyers. There is a crowd of buyers at the beginning of Ramadan. We are very hopeful about sales this time.
At least 5 killed in sylhet road crash
Five people have been killed in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a mini truck (Leguna) at Jaintiapur in Sylhet.
The accident took place on Sylhet-Tamabil highway on Monday (March 18) afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Mangali Patra (55), Sabitri Patra (35), Suchita Patra (35), Ritu Patra (8) and six-month-old Bijli who is the daughter of Suchita Patra.
According to the locals, the pickup van coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the Leguna in front of the Rural Electrification Office.
Ten members of the same family, including women and children, were injured. The injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) where doctors declared three of them dead.
Later, two more died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Panchagarh Express derails on Bangabandhu Bridge
Panchagarh Express derails in Tangail. As a result, the rail communication between Dhaka and North Bengal has been disrupted.
The accident took place in the Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail around 9pm on Monday (March 18).
Rezaul Karim, a station master of the railway station confirmed the matter to the reporters.
He said four wheels of a carriage derailed while the Panchagarh Express was going to Dhaka. The accident occurred due to a fault in the wheel of the train.
However, the railway authorities started work to salvage the carriage as soon as possible.
Earlier on Sunday (March 17), the Bijoy Express train with it's nine carriage fell on the railway track at Nangalkot in Comilla. At least 15 people were injured in the incident.
4 burnt in Malibagh restaurant gas cylinder fire
Four people were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion at a restaurant in the capital's Malibagh.
The injured were admitted to the burns unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The employee of the hotel Sabuj, (24) Maruf (16) and Julhas (18) Abdul Hannan, (40) was burnt in the incident.
The incident took place at Shahjalal Hotel at Malibagh intersection on Wednesday evening (March 20).
DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge, Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter. Quoting the duty doctor of DMCH, he said, "The hands, face and legs of the victims were burnt. They have been kept under observation. The condition of the victims is not critical. ’
Demra clothing warehouse fire under control after 9 hours
Fire service has managed to douse a fire at a cloth warehouse in the capital's Demra area after nine hours of frantic efforts.
However, efforts are still underway to completely extinguish the fire.
The fire was brought under control around 8:30 am on Friday, said Lt. Col Rezaul Karim, Director of Fire Service (Development and Training).
Earlier on Thursday (March 21) at 11:30 pm, the fire took place at a clothing warehouse in the Bhanga area of Demra. Sports clothing was kept in the warehouse.
Fire breaks out at City Group's board manufacturing factory
A fire has broken out in a super-board manufacturing factory of City Group in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. At least, 10 units of fire service are working to control the fire.
The fire broke out on Sunday (March 24) at noon. No casualties have been reported so far. Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Faruk confirmed the matter.
Gazaria Upazila Fire Service Station Officer Rifat Mallik said that the factory produces various variants of hardboards. On receiving the news of the fire, we reached the spot immediately and started the work of controlling the fire. At present, 10 units of fire service are working.
Korail Slum Fire: Slum dwellers lose everything
Many left homeless as fire breaks out at Korail slum. Hundreds of houses have been burnt in the fire.
The fire broke out Sunday afternoon (March 24). The fire service received information about the fire in the slum at 4:05 pm. Later, eight units of fire service brought the fire under control at 5:33 pm.
More than 200 houses of the slum and the furniture used by the slum dwellers were burnt in the fire. There's still smoke coming from there. Many people are crying after losing everything in the fire. Some are trying to find out if anything is intact in the rubble.
About 200 houses were burnt in the fire. The fire spread so fast that no one could take any furniture out of the house, the victims said.
