Police-locals clashes in Bhola: Death toll rises to 4

The death toll has risen to 4 over the incident of clashes that took place between police and local people at Borhanuddin upazila in Bhola. Over hundred people including police force members were also injured in the incident.

Officer in Charge of Borhanuddin police station Ekramul Haque confirmed the matter.

Resident Medical Officer of Borhanuddin upazila health complex Md. Shaheen said that there were two dead bodies in his hospital.

Civil Surgeon Rathindra Nath Roy informed that two more dead bodies were taken to Bhola sadar hospital.

Meanwhile, the injured were taken to upazila health complex and Bhola sadar hospital besides some were shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

It was known that a protest rally was organized as part of pre declared program at Borhanuddin High School ground at 11 am on Sunday protesting the derogatory remarks over Prophet Mohammad (SM) on facebook post. To take part in the rally several thousand people gathered there and chanted slogans demanding death penalty for the responsible person who made derogatory remarks on Prophet and Allah. At one stage police asked the mob to complete the rally soon. The two groups engaged in clashes suddenly.

Eyewitnesses said, the demonstrators hurled brick chips on police and to bring the situation under control police opened fire.

Mentionable, a youth named Biplab Chandra Shuvo from his facebook id messenger service shared derogatory remarks over Allah and Phopher Mohammad (SM). After taking screen shot of the messages some people protested the comments and thus it came to the attention of all.
