Advocate Rathish murder: wife gets death sentence

The court has awarded death sentence to wife Dipa Bhowmik in the sensational Advocate Rathish Chandra Bhowmik murder case in Rangpur.

Rangpur District and Senior Sessions Judge ABM Nizamul Haque delivered the order on Tuesday. Rathish Chandra’s wife Dipa Bhowmik Snigdha was present during the moment of verdict delivery.

Statements of 37 witnesses were taken in the sensational murder case. Later on January 21 the court fixed the date Tuesday for delivering verdict after noting down arguments of both sides.

Mentionable, on March 29 last year lawyer Rathish Chandra Bhowmik was strangled to death after having sleeping pills by his wife Dipa Bhowmik and her lover Kamrul Islam following extramarital affairs.

Then the body was buried in a under construction house at Tajhat Mollapara area. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Dipa on April 3 for interrogation.

Dipa Bhowmik gave confessional statement in connection with the killing and delivered information about placement of the dead body. Then the decomposed body was recovered from that house.

Being a plaintiff, Sushanta Bhowmik, younger brother of Rathish Bhowmik filed a case. On September 13 Rangpur Kotwali police station Sub Inspector Al Amin as the Investigation Officer filed the charge sheet to the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Arifa Yesmin accusing Dipa Bhowmik and Kamrul Islam.

After hearing of the case, on September 26 the judge referred it to the court of District and Sessions Judge. The judicial procedures in this connection began on October 21.
