Journalist Hacked to Death in Mymensingh

A local journalist named Swapan Bhadra (55) was hacked to death by a youth after posting on Facebook against drug abuse. The tragic incident has left his family and colleagues in deep mourning.

The murder took place on Saturday afternoon in the Majhipara area of Shambhuganj in Mymensingh Sadar Upazila.

Swapan Bhadra, originally from Kakni Union in Tarakanda Upazila, was the son of Jagesh Chandra Bhadra. He had been living with his family in Majhipara, Shambhuganj. Swapan was a former vice president of the Tarakanda Press Club and had worked for both local and national newspapers.

According to his family, Swapan was killed due to his writing. They noted that he had been attacked a year earlier for similar reasons. Acting on their complaint, police arrested an 18-year-old youth named Sagar Mia this afternoon. Sagar, the son of Babul Mia, is a resident of Majhipara village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam Khan of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station told the media that the arrested Sagar is known in the area as a troublemaker and drug addict. He has also faced multiple allegations of stabbing people in the past.
