16 platoons BGB deployed in Khulna city

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members are on patrol in Khulna city to maintain the law and order situation there keeping ahead the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election. 16 platoons BGB were already deployed in the city.

The BGB members have begun performing their duties from Sunday noon in connection with security and patrol throughout Khulna city.

According to the demand of Election Commission (EC) 16 platoons (640 members) of BGB force members were deployed. They will act as striking force as well as do their patrol duties. They have taken their position in different parts of the metropolitan city and are watchful about overall security measures. Moreover, police, RAB other security forces’ activities were beefed up.

Voting will take place in Khulna city on May 15. This city corporation is formed with 31 general and 10 reserved wards. Voting will be casted in 1 thousand 561 booths of 289 centers under 31 wards. The number of total voters in KCC is 4 lakh 93 thousand 93.

EC has decided to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in two voting centers while CCTV cameras will be installed in 3 centers.

EVM will be used in Sonapota Government Primary School and at Jasimuddin hostel of PTI voting centers.

On the other hand CCTV cameras will be installed in Daulatpur Government BL University College, Pioneer Secondary Girls School of Central Road and PTI training building’s first and second floor. The centers will be monitored live from the EC Secretariat.

Meanwhile, mayor and councilor candidates are passing their busy time with last minute campaign.

Awami League mayor candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek conducted his election campaign at Labanchara area in the city. There he said, police have detained the people who are accused of different cases. He also urged to vote for boat for development of Khulna city.

BNP mayoral aspirant Nazrul Islam Manju at a press conference at his Miapara home again complained about police harassment and demanded deployment of army.

On the other hand Sushasoner Jonya Nagorik, Sujan formed a human chain demanding fair election.
