Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (Thursday) said initiative has taken to resume various cross-border routes between Bangladesh and India that were stopped in 1965, stressing the need for enhancing connectivity between the two countries for mutual benefits

"We have to increase connectivity. If the connectivity between the countries is increased, India's North Eastern provinces - Assam and Tripura - can have access to Chattagram port," she said.

The premier said this when Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid a courtesy call on her at her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital this afternoon.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed newsmen after the call on.

During the meeting, they expressed happiness at the current state of the existing bilateral relations between the countries.

In this connection, the Prime Minister said the high-level visits between the countries will give impetus to carry forward the relations.

The Indian Minister said the bilateral issues between the countries are being reviewed and progressing well.

Defense sector cooperation, water sharing of Kushiara and Feni rivers, current Covid -19 situation and impacts of Russia-Ukraine war on the global economy prominently came up in the discussion.

The Prime Minister said the Covid-19 situation is well in Bangladesh while Jaishankar said the normalcy is bringing back in India.

Foreign Senior Secretary Masud Bin Momen, PMO Senior Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami were present.

Eid rush: Advance bus ticket sale begins

The sale of advance bus tickets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr has started from today (March 22). Passengers can collect tickets from different counters in the capital. Prices of all daily commodities hike except vegetables

After 10 days of Ramadan, some relief has started to return to the market. Prices of some commodities, including vegetables, have fallen. Main Eid congregation to be held at the National Eidgah at 8:30 am

The National Eidgah Maidan in the capital is being prepared for the main Eid-ul-Fitr jamaat (congregation). The main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at 8:30 am. Md Abu Bakr Siddque, public relation officer of Religious Affairs Ministry confirmed this information to the media on Monday (March 25). However, But if the weather is unfavourable, for any reason, the main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at National Mosque Baitul Mukarram at 9 am. Besides, a total of five Eid congregations will be held at National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. The first congregation will be held at 7 am. Abu Bakar Siddique said that the last congregation will be held at 10:45 am.

Nation set to celebrate 54th Independence Day

Saudi Arabia to invest $1.4 bn in Bangladesh's energy sector

Saudi Arabia's International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), has signed a $1.4 billion financing plan with the Government of Bangladesh. Officials of ITFC and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), the state-owned fuel oil import and marketing authority, were present at the signing ceremony. According to ITFC, the plan will enable the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) to import petroleum products. The ITFC also said the financing aimed at developing Bangladesh's energy infrastructure to develop the country. The government has extended the release period of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by six months. Her release has been extended for the eighth time by executive order of the government. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday (March 27).
