Bangladesh resumes Covid-19 vaccine campaign on June 19: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today (Monday) said Bangladesh will resume the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign on June 19.

“Those who completed registration will get priority to receive the jabs during the vaccination drive,” he told a doa mahfil programme of late Fauzia Maleque, mother of the health minister, at Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) here, an official release said.

Secretary of Health Education Division Ali Nur, Director General of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, senior officials of different relevant organizations and leaders of different platforms of medical professionals, among others, attended the doa mahfil.

Maleque said the infection rate of coronavirus has been increasing sharply in different border districts and it may spread in other parts of the country including Dhaka city.

He urged the people of the country to follow health rules to protect themselves from the deadly disease.

According to the DGHS, administering the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine was suspended on April 26. After suspending vaccination of the first dose of coronavirus jabs, administering of second dose continued to complete two doses of vaccination.

As many as 72,48,829 people have so far been registered for receiving the inoculation. On February 7, the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign began with spontaneous participation of all levels of people for receiving vaccines from 1055 designated hospitals.

After launching the vaccination campaign, 58,20,015 people received the first shot of COVID-19 vaccines while 42,50,167 got second doses of inoculation.
