Three hilly districts to be covered under strong network

Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban- these three hill tracts districts are being covered under strong telecommunication network. Optical fiber network is going to be set up in these areas to speed up the information technology framework. Bangladesh Army will perform the task under direct purchase method. In this connection the proposal placed by the information and communication technology division has been approved in the 16th meeting of economic affairs ministerial committee of the government. The information was delivered by cabinet division additional secretary Shamsul Arefin after holding the meeting.
Shamsul Arefin said, the work will be implemented under ‘Connected Bangladesh’ project to set up permanent telecommunication network in these three districts. Initiatives have been taken to set up permanent network in total 59 unions. As the hilly unions are very remote and also considering security risk and barriers, the proposal has been approved in principle under direct purchase method by Bangladesh Army.

Dengue kills at least 20 patients in first three months
Last year, the highest number of people died of dengue in the country's history. But before the 'peak season' of dengue this year, 20 people died in the last two and a half months. In this situation, the dengue situation is expected to worsen.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of dengue patients exceeded 1,500 from January to March 19 this year. Of these, 20 people have died during this period. Among them nine were men and 11 were women.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen held a meeting with the mayors of the two city corporations of Dhaka on Tuesday (March 19) to discuss the issues to be taken to eliminate dengue and chikungunya.
The Health Minister has directed to keep all hospitals in the country ready to provide proper and timely treatment to dengue patients.
Somali pirates make first contact with MV Abdullah owners
Somali pirates have contacted with the owning company, Kabir Group, of the Bangladeshi-flagged ship MV Abdullah, nine days after they were taken hostage from the Indian Ocean.
Media Advisor of Kabir Group, Mizanul Islam, confirmed the matter on Wednesday (March 20). He said the pirates had started communicating. An atmosphere of discussion is being created.
The Somali pirates established the first contact after nine days of hijacking MV Abdullah with its 23 crew members.

Eid rush: Advance bus ticket sale begins
The sale of advance bus tickets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr has started from today (March 22). Passengers can collect tickets from different counters in the capital.
Ramesh Chandra Ghosh, Chairman of Bangladesh Bus Truck Owners' Association, confirmed the matter on Friday (March 22).
According to Bangladesh Bus Truck Owners' Association, advance tickets will be available at all inter-district bus counters from Friday morning. At the same time, passengers can collect advance tickets online.
Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said that bus fares will be charged as per the fixed fare of BRTA. No extra fare can be charged outside the fare list. All bus owners have been instructed to do so.
Meanwhile, 'busbd.com.bd', an associate of the bus companies' online ticket sales, said in a special notice that advance bus tickets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr will be sold online from today (March 22).
Prices of all daily commodities hike except vegetables
After 10 days of Ramadan, some relief has started to return to the market. Prices of some commodities, including vegetables, have fallen. However, the prices of essential commodities including rice, pulses, sugar are still high.

Main Eid congregation to be held at the National Eidgah at 8:30 am
The National Eidgah Maidan in the capital is being prepared for the main Eid-ul-Fitr jamaat (congregation). The main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at 8:30 am.
Md Abu Bakr Siddque, public relation officer of Religious Affairs Ministry confirmed this information to the media on Monday (March 25).
However, But if the weather is unfavourable, for any reason, the main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at National Mosque Baitul Mukarram at 9 am. Besides, a total of five Eid congregations will be held at National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. The first congregation will be held at 7 am.
Abu Bakar Siddique said that the last congregation will be held at 10:45 am.
