Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the extension of lockdown from May 17 to May 23 to prevent further infection of coronavirus.

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain confirmed the information on Saturday.

The minister said, Prime Minister has given approval to the strict restrictions afresh starting from May 17. Notification will be published in this regard on Sunday. There the strict restrictions will be extended for one more week.

Farhad Hossain said, due to detection of Indian variant of coronavirus in the country and also for not bringing the rate of coronavirus infection under control, the lockdown or strict restrictions has been extended. We assume that the lockdown may be extended till May 30 after celebration of Eid ul Fitr.

As the corona infection increased in the country in this year the government announced countrywide lockdown from April 5. The lockdown was observed in a relax mood till April 13. As the infection rate increased then the government declared ‘strict restrictions’ from April 14. It was extended till May 16. Long distance buses and railway services have been suspended in this Eid. But risking their lives people are returning to their homes that may lead spread of coronavirus to a dangerous level.
