PM grants Tk 75 crore for non-MPO teachers, employees

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today granted a total of Taka 74.817 crore to provide financial assistance to 167,225 non-MPO teachers and employees to minimize their hardship rendered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of the total, Taka 46.633 crore has been allocated to the secondary and higher secondary education division (SHED) for the 105,785 non-MPO teachers and staffers while Taka 28.184 crore to the technical and madrasha education division (TMED) for the 61,440 non-MPO teachers and staffers of vocational, madrasha and independent ebtedayee madrasha education.

Each teacher and employee will get a one-time grant of Taka 5,000 and Taka 2,500 respectively.

Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Secretary Md. Tofazzel Hossain Miah confirmed it.

Teachers and employees of the non-MPO education institutions have expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her kindness and support to them in this pandemic-gripped hard time.

Mentioning the Prime Minister as teacher-friendly, President of Non-MPO Education Institutions’ Teachers and Employees’ Federation Golam Mahmudunnabi Dollar conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for standing beside the teachers and employees in this difficult time.

Ranakul Hasan, an employee of Babukhali Adarshya Degree College under Mohammadpur Upazila in Magura District, expressing his thankfulness to the Prime Minister said they are very happy for this support.

“We are seeking to Allah for her (Prime Minister) long and healthy life,” he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has extended her humanitarian support to the low-come and destitute and temporary job loser people in this lockdown enforced due to the second wave of Covid-19.

As part of her move, the Prime Minister has already distributed cash support of Taka 2,500 to 36.50 lakh families each in the second phase in the first week of this month.

As soon as the current lockdown started, distribution of humanitarian assistance has been begun as per the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the PMO Secretary said earlier.

He said temporary workless, low-income, destitute and vulnerable people along with others groups in the society across the country are getting this assistance.

As part of the efforts to minimize the difficulties of low-income people and daily basis wage earners due to the lockdown, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief with the directive of the Prime Minister has started distribution of Taka 590 crore from the beginning across the country.

Besides, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has personally donated Taka 10 crore from the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust for the Covid-19 affected and homeless people.

Of the total Taka 10 crore, Sheikh Hasina donated Taka 5 crore to the “Assistance Fund for Covid-19 Affected People” and another Taka 5 crore to the “House Construction Fund by Private Finance” on behalf of the trust.

The money, from the two respective funds, would be utilized for the welfare of the people hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic as well as rehabilitation of landless and homeless people.

In addition to it, the Prime Minister also allocated Taka 10.50 crore from her “relief and welfare fund” to all the deputy commissioners, aimed at giving assistance to the poor, distressed, insolvent and floating people affected by the ongoing lockdown.

Moreover, since the beginning of Covid-19 outbreak, the Prime Minister has been laying emphasis on producing more food grains and that is why she again has taken prompt measures like the first wave of virus attack.

To this end, she directed the administration to take necessary measures to harvest the paddy on time in haor areas.

With the directive of Prime Minister, the government introduced a call centre- 333 services mainly targeting the middle-class people who can’t seek assistance for hesitation and embarrassment.

If anyone seeks help by calling to 333, district administration will provide them assistance in hiding their identity.

The Prime Minister herself has been monitoring the humanitarian assistance activities along with providing necessary directives, aiming to offset the adverse impact of the deadly virus attack.
