Ongoing lockdown to be extended till May 16

To prevent coronavirus infection in the country the tenure of ongoing strict restrictions has been increased till May 16. In this period the inter-district public transport service will remain stop but those will be allowed to ply within the district.

The information was delivered by Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam at a press briefing after joining the cabinet meeting on Monday afternoon.

He said, the government is taking measures for strict punishment for not wearing face masks and for not abiding by the health guidelines. Police will go to every shopping mall. Decision has been taken to shut the market if health guidelines are not obeyed.

Earlier, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, the government is considering the matter of resuming public transport service under condition considering public interest keeping ahead the Eid ul Fitr. The transport service will be limited within the districts. Those will not be allowed to cross the district border. In the cities city transport will not be allowed to go beyond the city.

He said, any transport of Dhaka city will not be allowed to leave Dhaka. Those transports have to ply on roads keeping half of the seats vacant and following the adjusted fares. No extra fare will be allowed to charge. Transport workers and the passengers have to use masks and hand sanitizers on compulsory basis. The transport has to be disinfected in each trip compulsorily.

Obaidul Quader said, it cannot be said when corona infection decreases or increases. So we have to be alert. There is no reason for self satisfaction. We have to learn lesson from our neighboring country India and we have to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
