Churihatta tragedy: Godown owner yet to be traced after two years

Police yet to identify the chemical godown owners in connection with the devastating fire that broke out from a perfume factory and chemical godown and claimed 71 lives at Churihatta area in capital’s old Dhaka. Though two years have passed but police yet to trace any of the godown owners, and in this regard they said that the Wahed Mansion was rented by some people who provided wrong names and addresses. The investigation is yet to finish as right names and addresses were not found. Even the chargesheet was not submitted.

Family members of the victims are worried that they may not get the justice for the responsible people.

Officer in Charge of Chawkbazar police station Moudud Hawlader said, investigation is going on. The owner of the building was arrested but the owner of the godown could not be traced. They rented the godown providing wrong information. Still appropriate information could not be found.

Mentionable, 71 people were killed as a fire broke out at a perfume factory and adjacent chemical godown at Churihatta area in old Dhaka on February 20, 2019. Before that incident 123 people were killed in another fire that broke out at Nimtoli area in old Dhaka on June 3, 2010.
