The press release said, the commodities are being exported from Bangladesh to Nepal under an agreement signed between the countries in 1976. The products enter in Nepal as ‘Traffic in transit’ through Indian region from other countries. India has been offering special transit facilities to Bangladesh for export and land based trade with Nepal.
There are two crossing points under ‘Traffic in transit’ through railway; Rohonpur (Bangladesh)-Singabad (India) and Birol (Bangladesh)-Radhikapur (India). Every year a mentionable quantity of imported fertilizers are being sent to Nepal. Bangladesh Railway handed over its first fertilizer laden train to Indian Railway on February 3 for export to Nepal.
